I had several people here ask about the bouquets I did for the "Boy Meets Girl" program at 2008 Symposium in Chicago. After answering their questions, they wanted me to send them pictures. I thought some of you might also like to see what I did on stage. Groomsmen in black presented the bouquets on a fashion show runway, rather than brides or maids. I will post 3 or 4 pictures. If there is interest, I will post additional. Happy to answer any questions.

By the way, the contemporary one with the purple calla lilies is designed with just callas, glass and magnets. There is no glue, tape, foam, string, wire or any other mechanic. Just flowers, glass and magnets.

Not to take anything away from the models (they were all too cute), but the idea of men in black carrying the bouquets was FABULOUS. I wasn't looking at the dress or the hair or the shoes. I was concentrated on the bouquets....their shape, colors, flowers and textures.

This show brought tears to my eyes and left me feeling like I was part of an industry like no other. Where designers are encouraged to pour their soul into their work and be rewarded for working with Mother Nature's most beautiful creations.

Thank you to all the designers for their long hours and hard work.

Thank you so much for sharing!!!

magnets... like the corsage magnets? regular magnets? that is cool.. someone could just take that idea all over the place!

Yes, indeed. I am in the process of writing a book on using magnets in floral design. I don't use corsage magnets, but some designs can use those (but that's expensive!)

Some of you may have seen one of my magnet designs in the Feb '08 issue of Florists' Review. That's just one simple idea.... I have literally hundreds more, all documented.

If any of you come up with ideas, send them to me in a PM. If the idea is new to me, and I use the idea, I will credit you in the book if you want to see your name published.

wouldn't it be cool to levitate (float) flowers in mid air using magnets?

Do you have any pics that are closer up than those?? I would really like to see the bouquets up closer to see the detail more.

Shannon,

If you hold your mouse over the image you will get a little magnifying glass. Click on the image and it will automatically enlarge to massive size. You can see the bouquets wonderfully this way.

Already done that.

But it isn't long-lasting because as moisture leaves the blossom over time, the flower gets lighter, changing the amount of weight working against the magnets' power.

Looks pretty cool for an event, though.

It took a LOT of work to get that down, but now that I figured it out, it is easy to repeat regularly.

Whoops. That should be JUNE '08 Florists' Review.

The demo of my design is available on floristsreview.com. Look in the archives of the video demo area. June 2008

Beautiful bouquets! I wish I could have been at the show. Do you have photos of the "levitating" flowers?
