My name is Tamela and I am the proud new owner of Dorothea's Florist shop basically since August 2012 and enjoy the floral business very much. However, I would like to be able to communicate my thoughts with like minded florists and individuals in order to help me learn more about the field I have chosen. My business has been in Jensen Beach prior to my ownership 26 years which is a good thing considering and the locals relate to me this as they come by and visit with me. Please help with advice as I am open to all input.

Currently am a member of all three major wire services in which I would like more input from other florists about. I also belong to Flowershop network.

Welcome to the FlowerChat community Tamela... we're glad you found us. There is centuries of experience stored up here... it's a good idea to use the search function to look for topics on things you have questions about, and then ask questions about things you want info on.

Your first question, regarding wire services, is likely to stir up a hornets nest of responses. Personally, I no longer believe wire services are good for the industry, nor for florists. I have been in them all at one point or another over the years, dropped Teleflora 15 years ago, and FTD 4 years ago after being in the top 150 for a decade. I do not believe it's in the consumers best interest, and we simply give out other florists phone numbers and web addresses, so both the florist and consumer get 100%.

I would argue, that if you have any amount at all of out going business, that you only need one service, not all three. Unless you count on a lot of incoming business for your volume, the same thing applies. I would look at the numbers very hard, and I would bet, you're losing money on 1 or 2 of them, and maybe even all 3.
