Our family had a bridal shower for my nephew's fiance (Tiffanie) yesterday. We started planning it right around the time of the royal wedding and realized that the groom (Eric) was born the same year as Prince William, and his mom (my sister) and dad got married the same year as Charle's and Diana, and, of course, Eric and Tiffanie are getting married the same year as William and Kate. So....we decided to have a English Tea Party theme complete with hats/fascinators. I made Tiffanie's fascinator for her to wear. We found some old tea cups and I filled them with spray roses. A couple of my other sisters made some cute tea cup and cupcake shaped cookies. One of my sisters found a book of pretty floral paper at JoAnne Fabrics and made a bunch decorations out of it. We had a lot of fun with it and everyone got a kick out of the hats everyone wore. I think Tiffanie's mom had the best hat (the tall yellow one)! I'm doing their wedding flowers in August. I hope you enjoy the pics!

Fantastic!
I would SO partner with a bakery and market the whole package; have the bride-to-be supply the tea cups and you do the rest - I bet you'd get a lot of orders.

Yeah, Sandy. How fun!

I know you do a lot of hands-on activities at the stores. How about one that they make fascinators and then have a tea party, then book jobs from that. Have the bakery come up with an appropriate selection for part of the package. For the showers themselves, you could suggest that making fascinators be one of the games.

Ah, Linda...great minds think alike!
We are actually planning on a fascinator class this fall to make Halloween fascinators. We figured it would be the most likely scenario where our customers would actually WEAR them for an occasion! A Halloween fascinator is great because they don't have to come up with an elaborate costume, just wear black and top it off with the fascinator. Great for going out on the town or just answering the door for trick or treaters!

I like the idea of having a bridal party fascinator class. Then they can wear them for the bachlorette party!

We actually thought of making the fascinators at the shower but with about 30 people attending we decided it would be hard to come up with the space and and tools and supplies for everyone to do it.

Thanks for the ideas!

You know what's funny? Sometimes it's the most simple things that "regular" people (read: not florists) like. Everyone absolutely LOVED the teacups. I mean, how simple can you get? I tend to do mostly simple stuff for personal things-mostly because of time-and because I tend to like simple :) After working a really LONG week, I just kind of had to put something together quick on Saturday morning while making my dish to bring and getting myself and three kids ready to go!
