Teleflora and 100% of orders handled by Florists

I was reading Teleflora President Shawn Weidmann column in the myteleflora news. Once again Teleflora was saying that 100 % of the orders are handled by local professional florist. He says this on one hand
but on the other he enables the biggest direct shipper Pro Flowers to move their same day deliveries through local florist. I bet if dropped Pro Flowers that would impress florists.

Sorry ... can you explain the connection between Teleflorist and Pro Flowers and the set up. This would seem to fly totally in the face of the Teleflorist mantra and is something I need to understand.

A few months back I was contacted by ProFlowers. I bit the bait and decided to listen to what he had to say. After this long conversation, I got the feeling that they were feeling out the market to perhaps head in the direction of 1800Flowers. Perhaps there maybe a FU flowers / Teleflora separation in the future?
 
Carrie - FU Flowers has the contract with PF to send all their same day stuff and they send it thru Teleflora.

A sweet deal for them.

OK Pro Flowers are the guys who do the frozen things in a box. Yes? Who are FU Flowers and why do they use Teleflora and how much is taken off the order. Are FU an OG who split the orders between same day and next or what.

Can't remember the exact number, but the family sold their first order gathering operation to FTD for in excess of $5M at least 6 years ago. The domains included http://www.flowersusa.com/

One of the family members had a no-compete with FTD, but others didn't, so they set up their next set of OG sites including FU and usaflorist.com .

I don't know that they skim - we don't get orders from them so I don't bother checking.

They DO know what they are doing, and they do have an awesome website.

But they are not florists.....

David, I believe that TF states the 100% of their orders are delivered by local florist. That is 100% true, they do no drop shipping through anyone. They are not making the claim that all orders are "handled" AKA taken, by local florist just filled and delivered by local florist. There is a difference.

Personally, I think their new CEO is starting to see the handwriting on his wall.

Sadly, they fired Greg Coccari, a REAL FLORIST FRIENDLY CEO, and went on to hire KLINKO, who didn't have a clue. He thought he was still running a cruise line with a captive guest list, who couldn't jump ship, once he put them out to sea.

Perhaps, their new CEO gets the drift of just where the good ship, the USS REAL FLORISTS intends to sail, with or without any of them as our cruise director.

Facts be known, the vast majority of REAL FLORISTS are getting it, and they have no intention of any WS DOG wagging their tails.

If he's SMART, he will divest himself of the OGs, the NON-LOCAL PHONIES and all of the SKIMMERS, albeit CLOAKED under the names of FU FLOWERS and JUST FLOWERS or any other INTERLOPER who has invaded our industry and comes in between the REAL FLORISTS and their customers with their 100% SALES and 100% $ERVICE CHARGES.

To make the statement that: All of our orders are filled by REAL FLORISTS is a weak attempt on his part to placate any real florist who fills their orders, other than for other real florists.

The full statement should read: All of our orders are filled by REAL FLORISTS at a discount of 30% plus NOTHING for their COST OF DELIVERY, in addition to our ORDER ACQUISITION CHARGES which must be factored as an additional percentage of per order discount, when those florists consider the annual dues and fees they pay, to ACQUIRE OUR DISCOUNTED ORDERS.

As BOSS posted: If you're in my local telephone book then, YOU CAN FILL YOUR OWN ORDERS!

Otherwise, BEGONE! YOU HAVE NO POWER HERE!

I understand the difference. Yea they are better then FTD in that respect. They still support the number one boxed direct shipper. This was just posted by clay as to an email he got.

Different yes but a bit of a cop out. You see surely by association they are condoning/supporting the concept of flowers going out in boxes and that goes against everything they claim they feel for florists. Yes they can argue they are collecting orders but they should be doing that themselves ... if the orders exist why can't they get them straight.

To be honest if this sort of set up were to happen in the UK I would find it very hard to refrain from some tough comment. As I see it it is no better than what FTD/Interflora do but at least they are transparent. This strikes me as being box friendly by the back door.

Stop thinking Teleflora is in business for you. They aren't; they're in business for themselves, just as you are in business for yourself.

So if we can agree they're in it for themselves, which would make them more money, telling the customer to go to Teleflora.com or telling the customer to skip teleflora.com and see a local florist?

How do you think billionaires become billionaires? certainly not by giving the house away.

Well I never .... guess what's happened over here. Teleflorist UK have started working with World Flowers who in turn have taken the Tesco boxed deliveries over with Teleflorist supplying a previously unavailable same days service.

They are moving, under the radar, and many do not see it.

All of them ARE WHAT THEY ARE and THEY BEE WHAT THEY BEE and I've said all of this a hundred times before.

They are all FORE PROFIT COMPANIES who USE THEIR FLORIST MEMBERS as a MEANS TO THEIR END, and not to the mutual benefit of their filler florists!

Their BUSINESS MODEL is DEAD because it is OUTDATED and OUTMODED!

Their failure to address the needs of their own florist members in favor of the OGs, dOGs, non-local phonies, 800 florals, and floral dot.cons, in effect, sealed their fate which will lead to their own demise.

While all of them may never GO AWAY COMPLETELY, their members will, and they will try to reinvent themselves, but suffice it to say that, they will be nothing like their former selves.

The majority of REAL FLORISTS (mostly Mom and Pop hard working slobs like me) can no longer afford to subsidize any WS company which cannot return a positive net profit on their spreadsheet.

Inevitably, those florists, and once their WS camel has broken their backs, have no other choice, but to divest themselves of that liability.

Many shops have already figured this reality out for themselves, and so, THEY BEE GONE. Other shops (fence sitters) have taken the WAIT & SEE attitude, hoping that things will change, and Santa Clause will come to their Town soon.

And the last category are, and probably will always be, shops who have no clue and will always be stuck on stupid.

YES, there was once upon a time, when WSs were a REAL FLORIST'S PARTNER and they actually had the ability to make their member shop's cash registers ring with customer 100% sales.

Advertising for the FLORISTS (not their own dot.cons), Everyday and Holiday Keepsake containers which they advertised to the consumers thus creating consumer demand which resulted in their member's ability to sell those products at a full 100% to their own customers.

In their world of today, the CHACKA containers are sold to their members at a full 100%, only to be sold through their networks at a discount of 29% plus nothing for the florist's delivery service.

As I pointed out, and when those shops add in their annual dues and fees and convert that to a percentage, the additional incoming WS order acquisition charge comes to another 16% for a total net payment to their filler florists of fifty-four cents (54%) on their dollar.

That's been their PONZI SCHEME all along, but their florists can no longer survive on this CHUMP CHANGE SCENARIO.

As to Field Reps returning your call? They don't want to since, they too are tired of having to field your questions and address your problems.

Fact is that, they have no answer nor any solution, other than to parrot the company mantra, which they already know, is an effort in futility.

It's not their fault! They are just hard working slobs (like us) who need their paychecks at the end of every week and in order to support themselves and their family.

They DOO what THEY HAVE TO DOO and in order to SURVIVE!

And on that note, many of us should take our CUE from them as well!
