Interesting broadcast message from Teleflora this morning. They're having a contest to see who can send in the most email addresses. You collect your customer's email address and send it to Teleflora. You could win $500.

I'm thinking that I will pass on this one. I'll leave the $500 for someone else.

Now THAT is @@@@ed cheeky - They expect ME to provide them with MY customer's e-mail addresses so THEY can market directly to them......thereby BYPASSING me ........... for a CHANCE at a measly 500.00 ?????? !!!!!!

Can you say "NO WAY IN THIS LIFETIME OR ANY OTHER........Not NO but Hell to the NO"

For real Ted???

SRSLY????

They must think their members are stoooopid~! Sadly some florists will likely comply...

And again, our fault for poorly worded messages. This is for shops with eFlorist websites and the e-mail addresses you collect will go into your OWN e-mail list, not ours.

There was an 'addendum' Dove message that went out to clarify. Here's what it said:

[FONT=&quot]ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING EFLORIST EMAIL CONTEST: The email addresses collected by shops are added to YOUR eFlorist email list, NOT Teleflora's. As eFlorist members, you have access to eFlorist's email marketing program, where professionally designed messages are sent to your customers on your behalf. These messages promote your shop, not Teleflora, and link customers to your site so they can purchase directly from your website. Email addresses from shop lists are NOT shared with Teleflora or any other company. Shops with robust email lists have shown stronger sales around holidays than shops who don't use promotional emails, and this service is FREE for eFlorist members. For full contest rules and details, visit the eFlorist Service Center at www.myteleflora.com.

If you're saying to yourself, "Why would Teleflora have a contest for us to increase our OWN e-mail lists?" - I can tell you that it's pure capitalistic greed. The more orders you take on eFlorist websites, the more orders we get to assess the per order fee on. Seriously. We like to help you all because the better and stronger you are, the better and stronger we are.

I do not have a TF site but I can testify to the success of the e-mail campaign. I never sent my own data base of e-mails to the company, but every order that was generated over my website was in that data base and it was successful. I did sent in 5 e-mail addresses as a test to see if they would ever receive direct marketing to, nope they never have, and it has been over a year since dropping our site.

I do miss the professional e-mails that they generated for the website.

Nicole,

Trust me I sympathize that sometimes emails can be misunderstood, but my humble suggestion would be that someone review them before they are sent. Considering the size of your membership the chances of a poorly worded email causing you grief (case in point is this one) are great. As I recall you provided the same reasoning (poorly worded) for the recent letter form your CEO suggesting members pull up their socks at Valentines in case the press was watching them.

I'm with Doug... I think they should run them by Nicole before they let them fly...

Or they could just let me do it for them. I'm sure I could rile folks up just as well....

Just another reason to be wire service free...

Nicole.....Perhaps Stewart and Linda should add to the Teleflora budget one more person..........newspapers use them all the time.........It's called an EDITOR.

The comments suggesting that TF members must be stupid
some as a <quote> box of rocks <quote>

seriously, all this stuff needs to be run past someone like Nicole, seriously....

TF and everyone on this thread should also consider the fact that the emails gathered via other website providers, or through any other means, whether verbal or written, likely were attained with some sort of Terms and Conditions that include something about not selling or using the emails for other purposes etc.

Therefore, I would think that TF couldn't use them anyway. If they are being used for the purposes of generating email campaigns for the individual shop that gathered them, then I think it is a great idea. We have the same relationship with FSN, and their email blasts are great.

TF should really automate the process to make it a little more seamless.

It would be interesting to read the accompanying documents that TF applies to this program. Reading the part of just how the emails will be used has significance.

I would think they plan to do email campaigns, and they will probably mention your name. Yet, I suspect it's more to promote themselves over time.

If they were interested to promote just your shop they would send the list only with your name. However, I suspect their documents might indicate additional mailings and details of who gets what and who is promoted will be obscure for future mailings.

Just a guess
