From yesterday's Pargould Daily Press:

Teleflora cuts jobs

Local management refuses to comment

By Carol Haynes/Daily Press

Published: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 12:12 PM CST
Although Paragould Teleflora human resource manager Hal Wyatt had no comment, the Daily Press learned Tuesday morning that some employees were terminated.

In a statement released from Teleflora president Shawn Weidmann in Los Angeles, said, “Teleflora reduced a select number of positions across all business units to align costs with current and long term business priorities.

“As a long-time employer in Paragould, Teleflora remains committed to sound business practices and providing the local community with continued employment opportunities.”

Weidmann said because Teleflora is a “privately held company,” the number of jobs cut Monday would not be released, nor the number of current employees.

Some employees who lost jobs were unwilling to make comments, and others did not return calls when contacted by the Daily Press.

However, Larry Gibbs, who lost his job as a hardware technician, said the Press he holds “no ill will.”

“Business is not good, and it affects us like everyone in town ... We are at the mercy of the market as well,” he said. “I understand the economic situation, he said. “If work is not there, we can’t keep a workforce in place.”

He opted not to comment on severance packages or other options that may have been offered terminated employees by the company.

Gibbs said while he had no official warning of job cuts, he had suspicions “something was coming for awhile.”

Anyone who watches the news, or follows the economy understands the possibility of cut jobs, he said.

“It happens,” he said. “I’ve never allowed myself to be defined by my job ... My job is what enables my life.

“My family is life.”

In a press release Tuesday, Teleflora announced it will premiere a commercial in conjunction with Super Bowl XLIII, scheduled to air on NBC on Feb. 1.

According to the press releases, “This marks the first time in the company’s 75-year history that it will advertise during one of the world’s most watched and celebrated sporting events. Teleflora’s 30-second spot will air during the game’s second quarter.”

Reuters news service reports a 30-second commercial spot during the game will cost $3 million.
Anybody hear if cuts were made in LA or Oklahoma City, too?

I read that last night.

I did hear the rep for Maine and parts of MA were among those let go. I don't know if Diane did NH too or not, don't know what they did after that rep left, if they consolidated territories or not.

Are you saying Diane lost her job??? That would be too bad, she was the most worthwhile rep I have had in a while...

Most likely we'll see this trend continue, and move across the other two as well in the near future. I've heard rumblings, and reps asking "have you heard anything?"...

As more florists struggle, more will fall out of the wires, as this happens, the wires will have less need for employees across all areas. I'm sure their technology area is already thin with so many better alternatives out there on the market...

Teleflora is most likely being proactive in this arena, rather than reactive after Mothers Week is over... better to run short handed and profitably than to keep on too many employees and break even or worse.

I have been expectin g to hear this and still expect to hear it from the other two wire services as well. And you got to wonder how life is for proflowers with an fairly new owner having paid a small kings ransom for that company. I have not had a teleflora rep in this store in at lease 3 years

New Teleflora Field Sales Constultant

Diane was the rep for NH....sad to see her go, too.
I just found out that our new Field Sales Consultant for New England is Rick Gowen. Extension 2903 ( if anyone needs to contact him)
If I hear any more,,,,I'll try to post it.

I just came back from Los Angeles from the Teleflora Unit President's Meeting where I was informed that our Sales Consultant had changed.
It's a tough time...but things will get better!

Regrets???

I thought this was interesting.... seems we all are having advertising regrets.
The owner of online florist Teleflora, who is joining Pedigree and Denny's (DENN) as first-time Superbowl advertisers, now wonders whether she made the right call. "If I were buying in October [and not earlier], I probably wouldn't have made this decision," says Lynda Resnick, co-owner of Teleflora's parent company, Roll International.

Apparently, job cuts hit Ok as well as Los Angeles as well. A number of people in Ok were "encouraged" to take their retirement.

Have you noticed that response time to any phone calls made to the 1-800 # are way way way long........and that TF sales reps are not calling as much lately???

Hum.................

Teleflora is most likely being proactive in this arena,

Boss did you mean to use the word Teleflora and proactive in the same sentence?

I don't know.... what do you think?

I simply meant that TF knows they are going to see declining revenues, and are acting ahead of the curve to reduce exposure to payroll.

Funny tho.... the mandate from FTD to their reps is they "must be in each" members store once every 4-5 weeks... I've seen mine 4 times since Thanksgiving....not that I need him, but he is a nice guy...

Oh and they have them driving Malibu's now... no more nice cars...
