Thousands of Florists Are Unwittingly Contributing To TF.com’s SEO Efforts In the world of internet marketing, links are the currency that powers the economy of search and user behaviour. Consider: Links enable users to move from one page to the next, be it from page to page on the same site, or from one site [...]

Teleflora Linking Scheme – Are You A Victim?

I have to agree, well written article and explains the subject very well for those that do not have the time or inclination to spend every waking moment worrying about SEO ( that describes most of us). It is unfortunate that TF appears to have gotten caught with their hand int the "cookie jar". There is already such a high level of animosity towards the WS's and this will more than likely just add to it.

However it does point out one thing for sure, the battle for the consumers flower dollar will be fought on the Internet. It is easy to see why Teleflora made this move when you view the stats, after all like any wire service the one thing the bulk of their members want first and foremost is order count (regardless of some naysayers on this board). So the end result amongst Wire Services will be, as it has been for decades ....he who has the orders, has the members.

Excellent article, and understandable for most. It sure is easy to pinpoint when the links went into effect.
The chart showing the mass link infusion is telling. On FB, one of the florists who always seems to either defend OGs or at least attempts to minimize their bad acts claimed that TF had been running a link scheme like this for years. I knew that wasn't true and it was nice to see Ryan illustrate the time line.

Who wants to bet me that higher-ups at TF will claim this scheme was the work of some rogue SEO they hired? Reminds of the same excuse used when they got called out for optimizing for 'free flower delivery'.

True enough, and I agree to a point. There is a distinct possibility that that "wire service" is not even in existence yet ;)

Members do want profitable orders, and more and more they want the consumer deception removed from the industry. There is plenty of room for another "service", and I believe that one based on ethical, mutually profitable operations will succeed eventually, perhaps leaving the rest non-issues.

I won't take that bet. I have already heard TF trying to spin this as part of their additions for improved local SEO. They did make a few little changes (that some of us have had in place since 2009 or earlier), but this is nothing to do with helping the florists, nothing to do with local SEO, and everything to do with trying to be sneaky and assuming the florists won't notice.

Right on about 'not noticing.' Your chart shows it's been almost 6 months since the change took place.

Absolutely will not improve local SEO for florist hosted sites. This is all about driving more clicks to TF.com.

Anyone out there that has a webmaster who adds outgoing links to your site without your permission, fire them.

Yea, they did, but ONLY because they got caught we worked to spread the word.

Nothing to stop them from doing it again, even more covertly!

Get and independent site! Silly florists...

BOSS<<< shaking head... Again!
