Well I pulled the plug on FTD today. Mailed them notification of membership termination. Here is a summary of our experience with them.

We joined (for free) in September, got less than 10 orders by November when the membership starting costing $99/month. Orders have been coming in about at the rate of 10 to 15 per month. Nothing to get excited about. In November I had a "Other" fee that was a mis charge for $54 that I reported in writing. Got a phone call from customer service agreeing that it was wrong and that they would credit the account. December, no credit and another mis charge for $24 (at least their mischarging less) have sent them another two letters since and am still waiting for the Jan ststement to see if the problem has been corrected of if there is yet another mis charge.

Then the V-Day mess, and after reading on this board I've decided I'm not taking a chance and ending up with the same mess we had with TF. So we're out - at least I think we are. I know when we tried to terminate TF they just kept sending bills every month - well beyond the end of a listing period. Eventually they said they were terminiting our membership because we didn't pay our bill - OK - Thank you.

I do have a positive if I can call it that - at least so far, and that has been with 1800flowers. Been with them since July have detected three small mistakes which they fixed within one statement. The technical support is made in the USA i.e. its not offshored to some third world country where the agent is worthless at best (TF). In any case, so far so good. We're not getting rich but when things are slow it at least keeps a few folks busy for a while.

I look forward to the day we become WS free but for now we'll run out the FTD period (I'm sure there will be more problems before its all over) and stick with 1800.

Incidently, for thoese of you with 1800 make sure you upgrade your Adobe reader. The latest 1800 web client, while it uses less printer ink, leaves the Adobe reader open as a background task (i.e. open but you cant see it unless you open your Task Manager). Its an easy bug to fix. The problem becomes obvious if you leave your computer running all the time without rebooting. Once you've received 50 orders you get an error message. This will still receive orders they just don't print automatically - so you may not know that you have one unless you check. Like I said its an easy fix if you experience the problem.

It has taken well over a year to straighten out a "credit" mess by FTD. Ours involved the Norton charge, and unauthorized advertising. Dealing with the Customer Service (a term that somewhat loosely fits) was an exercise in rude. I have no use for the organization or it's business (again a term that doesn't seem appropriate) practices... and I'm not shy about saying so.

So, good for you on dumping them.

Terminated a WS?? One less thing to worry about. IMHO

I hear ya! We went through a nightmare with TF - thats finally over. I warned my FTD sales guy that I would pull the plug at the first sign of trouble. There out of there!

Anyone having problems with 1800?

Anyone having problems with 1800?

Nope! Love it! Have had them for a year. If a problem is on your statement just call your Service Rep, the problem is dealt with at that moment. Low fees, no sneaky add on fees.

Get what I want on roses, arrangement minimums + delivery! If not it was rejected and NO charge to me. Over 150 incoming orders so far just this month and still coming in strong. Can't wait till the direct CC orders come in from the marketing I do with the recips that I have already benefited from previous months!

Hope you benefit from it like I have
I say "TAKE THOSE ORDERS AND RUN WITH THEM!" or it's not worth being in any WS.

Wow - this is a first! Positive or at least not overly negative comments about a wire service. I have to admit - 1800 hasn't been all that bad for us. FTD started good and ended ugly. And don't ask me about TF - I don't want to loose my rep power again.

Rep power is WAY overrated, IMO...if you are posting with the primary focus being what your relatively dorky "rep power" will do, you become the lowest-of-the-low in the forum world, a "karma-whore".

Conversely, users with low karma have penalties imposed on them. People that post comments designed to get more karma, for example mirroring a linked article or presenting a banal groupthink opinion or lame joke, are referred to as karma whores.

The last thing in the world you should think about when posting your opinion on a subject is the effect it will have on your Rep...

It was a joke - please - like I care - get a life! You are taking this way too serious. I care way more about my scores on the games and how well I do vs the others - now thats something that really matters. I be working on Shelby next - watch out!!!

We quitt FTD before christmas, but were stuck with them until the end of january, which was fine except I started to see these additional fees on the christmas statement. I thought they were the year end fees but noticed them also on the january statement. Its called the local search campaign fee for 52.97, then local search monthly payment for 30.00, and the final local search setup for 120.00. I'm assuming its for the webpage we had with them but also canceled, however the rep at the time assured as we would only be paying $50 a month for this. I have e-mailed them concerning these fees, called them scam artists, probably the reason why i have had no reply. I have called our rep who hasn't bothered to phone us back for we quitt and therefore no longer wants to deal with any concerns from us. Surprise! needles to say we owe them a whole 30.00 for january ( I actually ended up with some incoming orders because we were quitting, but that did not change my mind) but I'm not going to pay that until i get some answers. its all about principles at this point. I'm happy to say good riddance to FTD. We were with them for 2 years, the first year was good because we had a free year, the second well did not receive many incoming and ended up paying them more then what they deserved. Ended up with problems that took forever to fix, well you know the usual story...... As for making money on outgoing orders we still get that. Most florists are happy to give you some sort of discount, so really who need the wireservice????

Vitis I could not tell from the tone of your post that you were joking...in fact in re-reading it I still don't see any reference to a "joke" mentality, so please, I guess, forgive my response...

And what's with the "Get a life..." comment? Please I have more "life" then 3 typical people put together...the last thing I need is another one!

OK - Peace - Lets focus our negative energy on the WS.

1-800 started out bad and ugly, so what makes them good now? Seriously, I am asking this question in all seriousness. What have they brought to the table for the florist? How is their wire service any different or any better than TF, please don't compare them to FTD they are now at the bottom of the barrel, at least in my eyes. We were filling thousands of dollars worth of orders per month back in the early 90's before the whole roll up attempt by them. We were kissing their butts with their ridiculous request, running to the wholesale house 2 & 3 times a day to accomodate their every little need, and special request, accepting their daily late afternoon deliveries, etc... one day they called and and told us that in light of them having been so good to us by sending us all those orders they would like us to help them do marketing. If we wanted to remain their prefered FTD florist in Syracuse then we needed to send them advertising dollars so that they could market to OUR customer. We refused and we never saw another FTD order from 1-800 again. Shortly there after FTD started down the same path of screwing the florist and we finally pulled the plug on them. We were a top 150 sender, they have never even tried to get us to come back. I only hope that it is because somewhere they have posted next to our name... Don't bother trying they will never be that STUPID again!
Has the leopard changed its spots or is it the I will play this game for all it's worth until I get screwed game, like I play with TF until the wire service is no longer needed or something REAL comes along?

I wouldn't necessarily say they are *good*... but from my point of view they *****may***** be the **current** lesser of evils?

Right now the only **good** thing I can point to that they have done is reverse the membership dollar scheme, basing it on received orders rather than sent orders, thus making it more small florist friendly(?).

Other than that time will tell, they seem to listen when I talk to them, they seem to consider possible future changes I talk about...but then again so did others.

Time will tell....but as always, guard your flank.!

I've asked this question, in so many words, before. I still don't understand the sudden (to me) status change.

I read these posts about how 800 is now the "fair haired child" as far as wire service vendors. But you read their financials and they have targeted the retail florist as their next cash cow - just like the others.

They say that if you put a frog into a pot of boiling water,
it will leap out right away to escape the danger.

But, if you put a frog in a kettle that is filled with water that is cool and pleasant,
and then you gradually heat the kettle until it starts boiling,
the frog will not become aware of the threat until it is too late.
The frog's survival instincts are geared towards detecting sudden changes.

This is a story that is used to illustrate how people might get themselves into terrible trouble.
This parable is often used to illustrate how humans have to be careful to watch slowly changing trends in the environment, not just the sudden changes. Its a warning to keep us paying attention not just to obvious threats but to more slowly developing ones.

We are going to stay with them. Have not really done us wrong as yet.
Del Washington & Tony Tantillo have treated us very well, as have others on the management team.

Now does that mean that I've got the blinders on ? Absolutley not !
Right now FTD has us in the gutter, which will be dealt with to completion very soon. TF has been a total waste of our money and time, but 800 is, at the moment, doing the right thing.
From a logical standpoint it would be in 800's best interest to continue doing the right thing, especially since FTD is in the hot-seat. Many have made the jump to them already.
Will they or could they follow in FTD's footsteps ? Very good possibility,
just not yet.

IMO, no matter what the justification, anyone filling for an nOG who is actively promoting DS options is suffering from a very bad case of short-term-thinking-itus.

But, hey, its your nickle! If MY *personal vision*of the future comes true, the shops that have abandoned any and all WSs now and are fully focused on THEIR customers and THEIR brand, will be the last one left standing. From a self-interested business standpoint, I should applaud everytime a florist "sticks with" a WS...that probably mean one less competitor in the next 3-5 years!

And if I'm wrong?? Ahhh...there is always dish-washing and lawn care...
