Are any of the Flower Chat members going to be at the Texas Designer of the Year Contest in Austin this Saturday afternoon? If so, please come up and introduce yourselves to me. I will be commentating the program at the convention center for Texas State Florist Association. I would love to meet some of you in person.

Parry should be there.... as the winner. :) *votes for Parry and crosses his webbed toes* ;)

Design contest

I agree, Parie should be there as the winner. I actually don't know who the competitors are yet, but, I hope Parie turns out to be one of them. This is based on the photos I have seen on the website. She does great work.

I'll be there to cheer on the Houston crowd...Trying to fit the AIFD events at Greenleaf in as well. Should be a great flower weekend!

well... gosh....

i'm actually at a loss for words,....:pblush:
except thank you carol and daz for your compliments.
really, i'm tongue/finger tied here.
it's taken me already 1 minute to type this much.

but to answer your question.
first, in case some of you might not know, texas is a
BIG state. Austin is a good 9 hour drive from here, it's my daughter's 4th birthday, Strawberry SHortcake anyone? and more importantly, I'm not a Texas Master Florist, and I believe you have to either be one or maybe be in the process of attaining that designation to enter these contests. Amarillo, is a little off the beaten path for most of these types of seminars and competitions. But would love to hear how it all goes.
So Carol, keep us informed.
Again
Thank You,
Parie

Texas Cup

FYI...

TMF/TMFA isn't required for the competition. All are welcome. The preliminaries are almost always in March. Hope to see you compete next year!

Look for me and mlou if you make it to convention in San Antonio this Summer.

The Texas designer of the year was outstanding. We had one of our Flowerchat posters make it to the Top 5 which means she will compete again in July to go to the Sylvia Cup. It was Beth O'Reilly and her work was fantastic.

However, I had to commentate for four hours straight and I finally lost my voice at the end of the time. I have never talked that long in my life. But, the competition among the 15 designers was some of the best I have ever seen. Now, we can cheer on our Flowerchat poster, Beth. Great job, Beth. Carol Bice

I'm happy to say that my boss of 13 years and my mentor Coby Neal was also a finalist. He's also a FC member, but rarely finds the time to post. We are polishing up for the AES at AIFD in July. I hope to see some of you there again this year.
I am embarrassed to say that I cannot remember the names of the other three contestants. They were all females, maybe Carol can remember.

The judges definetly had their work cut out for them this year. There were more contestants than I've ever seen and the work was really wonderful. Carol's commentating kept the audience captivated and I didn't even notice that she began to lose her voice. That is quite a task, but she found lots to say about ever peice that entered the stage. GOOD JOB CAROL!

Kudos to TSFA also! The competition was really well organized this year. I would encourage any Texas resident to become a member and compete in next years preliminaries. It's open to anyone who wants to compete. It's fun and challenging; a really great experience.

After this weekend, I really think that someone needs to come up with a floral challenge like Iron Chef. How fun would that be. We've got cake competitors and chef competitors, why not a televised floral challenge? I think it could be very captivating. What do ya'll think?

Now if I could spell Parie's name right, I'd be in bidness. TY Carol for spelling twice in your first sentence to show me the light.

Mary Lou, did you come to the competition? If so, no one told me you were there. Thanks for providing the names of the other finalists.
