TF is telling me that I need to purchase a new router for our Eagle systems. They say that we have to buy it because of PCI requirements for credit card processing. But FTD, in trying to get us to use them as our credit card processor, is saying that a "This is just a band aid," we will need different hardware in a year. Asked TF about it and they say that we FTD is incorrect we will not need new hardware.

I would like to know if anyone is telling the truth. I know there are lots of FCers that understand far more about computers than I do so I hope you guys can help me understand. Thanks.

Deny them both..........Go to your local bank.......inquire about their CC processing rates.........and you may find a pile of savings......and they can help you with whatever equipment, routers, etc, you may need....probably for less than TF and FTD.

As far as I know the router deal is more about making all of us have the same equipment.

Makes support easier for them if everyone is using the same equipment. The router will be just one part of the system that will help protect your customers data. The router will also give them more control to acess your computer to perform updates to your software and resolve support issues.

TF will also be using Mcafee Total Protection to manage your Firewall and Virus Protection. This alows them to have access to the Total Protection Access Point online to monitor your computers and all them to see if your computers are updated with current virus protection and to see if any detections are happening on your computers.

There will always be some kind of cost associated with updating your computers and software. Whether its tomorrow next month next year or five years from now. So if FTD says this is just a band aid they are probally right but I'm sure they have plenty of their own band aids.

The bottom line is in order to be PCI compliant you will need to make sure that all of your computers are up to date with the latest VIrus protection and software that is used on your computer for organizing your customer data.

You will need to use an Operting System that is more secure then the home versions. Thats why most of us have to upgrade to XP professional versus using just XP home. It will always need to be updated with the current securtiy updates.

Most importantly your POS software will always have to have the latest version available.

I personally think that if Visa and Mastercard want business to be PCI compliant that they should give them a lower discount on their credit card processing.
