I just received our TF's Mother's Day containers. The "Star" arrangement - "America's Favorite Mom Bouquet" is in a Pink vase. But the vases we got only have the barest hint of pink in them. They're mostly silver/metalic!

I'm not sure if we just got a "bad batch" or if they're all made this way. Did anyone else receive and open their vases yet? I don't know if I should send these back!

I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Lesha

As I understand it they're all like this. Look more pink in certain lights but really they're more silver than anything.

They are pink metallic and will be a standard item after Mothers Day. They don't look anything like the picture on the posters. Hopefully customers will like them.

We're still waiting for the second marketing kit.

I haven't received mine yet. Are they nice? I don't have a lot of luck selling wire service containers so I don't normally buy them, but for this I thought I would give it a shot. I figured if they don't sell at the holiday I will be able to sell them afterward because I didn't buy many.

Got a few back in March. They are definately ever so lite pink...more silvery..

Speaking of TF and this vase, My rep came into my store and merchandised me for this product..She submitted a pic and I won 100.00 amex gift card and may win flowers for 48 of those vases...here's to hopin' getting a bit back for my money put in..

TF's Favorite Mom Vase

I received my vases yesterday and they are definately Pink!
But I can't figure out how to attach the heart in a way that it will lay straight. Any ideas?

Have you tried the recipe? With Mother's Day pricing, there's no way we can use the SRP. Also, the picture has one stem of asiatic lilies with two open blooms. With only one open bloom, it will really look sad. We may have to use an oriental lily to achieve the look. At $42.95, there's no way!

It's not pink and it's not $42.95

I think the color has been discussed, but it amazes me the florists that do not check the price that Teleflora "says" is SRP with what it really sells for at the flower shops. I pulled out the Teleflora recipe list with "Estimated Whsle. Cost" used in getting their $42.95 total. Ahhh, first thing..... it is based on every florist buying the 48 pack vs the 24 pack....so right off the bat add $2.00 to their SRP ($1 x 2 mark-up). Next, most florists can not buy Mother's Day week flowers for what they have as "Estimated Whsle. Cost". Thinking that the cost formulas might work if I purchased the flowers from Teleflora stemsandbunches.com, I checked....based on flowers for a 24 pack it would put the total cost of the America's Favorite Mom Bouquet at $70.52 (using the same Teleflora material/labor mark-up formulas) and it only gets "down" to $60.79 based on flowers for the whole 48 pack. I played with the numbers all sorts of ways, but I can not see how ANY florist can sell it less than $50 based on the standard 3.5 mark-up fresh/greens, 2.0 mark-up hard goods, and a 20% mark-up for labor (also the same formula of calculation that Teleflora used).

Please all FC Teleflora florists, take the time to do the math yourself instead of leaving the Teleflora SRP on your Teleflora website....I bet you will find it way closer to $50 than the Teleflora $42.95. Besides that 15% difference, you are already losing the standard WS percentage to fill it.

Yes, and those 2 (TWO) stems of Alstroemeria have blooms all over that arrangement.....it really is at lease 4 stems unless they corsage glued alstroemeria blooms in 5 different places in the vase arrangement.

Clay,

This isn't new with TF! Their recipes are always losing propositions for florists. I only carry 12 of any TF item, and those are purchased for our own customers who for some crazy reason...love their containers! I'm not interested in using the 12 containers I have to fill incoming orders. For the record, our price for this ~creation~ is $50.00. Still not making the $$$ on this item as compared to our own in house specials.

I took the gamble this time and did not code for any teleflora MD product. It is the first time my shop will have ever not been coded(from any service) at a major holiday. The pressure to code is pretty strong, as the calls are continous from TF and every shop in town has them. I am sticking to it though and we shall see. I have to say though I am enjoying not having to specific product, and hold onto it for orders, not worrying about selling/overselling containers, and most of all paying for them. I am a little concerned it may hurt me a bit with regulars hunting containers, but maybe they hunt them cause that's what we let them get used to?

Last week I called to order cubes and ovals just because I wanted them, never stated and never asked if I wanted coding (this is on record in case they code me for them...he he) And then was offered a 12 pack of the "favorite pink vase"......so I said 12? Okay.....operator said "you'll get headquarters orders with them"........uhm....nope...all headquarters orders go to the shop without trained designer cause I don't accept them without knowing where they come from....anyway...case arrives yesterday and yes they are pink...no flaws...although one had a bit of scratching where it was placed into the styrofoam holder...paint must have been a bit damp!
We will not follow recipes...will not take orders for them from Hdq...may consider from fellow florists with delivery and will be 3 sided if they want the recipe followed...........

We haven't codified for anything in about 10 years.

And the product sells very well - Teleflora is excellent at promoting them to the consumer.

Now if whoever does it would quit helping them pay for those Parade ads maybe we florists would get even more orders.

In case that's too nebulous - in plain english - if you think putting your name on those pages in that tiny print next to the huge tf.con is gonna get you business - I need to sell you some advertising.

In case that isn't plain enough I'll try ebonics...

If you spend money for coop ads I have a name for you

We did this last year for the first time - very cool. It is nerve-wracking, because I felt like I was losing a brand people wanted - not true at all. Unless you have customers asking specifically for their name, they'll accept anything you call a "mother's day special". Name your designs "spring garden vase" "mom's favorite" whatever - mostly our customers want to "see" what we have, so the TF/FTD pages helped that. Take pics of your fininshed designs, add special touches like butterflies, organza ribbon accents, combos w/chocolate, tea etc etc and go from there!

This is so true and somehting that I have done for years. I also stopped doing it this year for the first time. Again it's the everyone else is doing it in my town mentality. While you could say it FWOAC, it is also PRESSURE that is placed on you by relentless, repeated calls, during busy times and the desire to look as legitimate as your competitor. And it's also shady business practice of making you opt out of these ads, once you have placed one. The deadlines are way before the holidays, and I believe that is to make sure that they can keep you locked in if you weren't thinking far enough in advance. It is really geared to gouging the filler florists, and small shops that are shorter staffed, and taking advantage of them. Show me a shop too small for a business manager, and I'll show you someone who has fallen for one of these schemes.

I never, never, never carry TF containers. I sell FLOWERS :bouquet: not containers. I have educated my customers on this point. My customers want flowers not overpriced ( usually ugly ) containers. And I get immense joy telling TF HQ this when they call me time and time again to try and sell me their craaaaap! I don't even have customers come in and ask for the sh*t anymore. Like I said they want FLOWERS. I make up my own specials, have my own containers. Containers that are not overpriced pieces of ....
I still have crap in my basement from previous owners that no matter how I try I can't move. Home improvement tool box, Mother's day crystal Pitcher, etc. HA HA HA
Really who comes up with some of this stuff? Does anyone remember the cystal crown that TF had years ago ? Or the Measuring cup? (really a measuring cup!!!!)
Bwaa Ha Ha Ha....
And if I see one more Ornament container for christmas I'm gonna hurl.

Me too. I like the stunned silence of the sales reps. :>
