Here's saying it like it is:

Why should you care what Teleflora has to say? Unlike our competition, all of our bouquets are hand-arranged and delivered by a local florist using the freshest flowers available. The bottom line is: We’re the best. We know about flowers, we care about flowers and we want to create a dialogue with other people who share the passion.

I like these people. See more at http://www.teleflora.com/flowerblog/

Ya' think it will be a "conversation"?

Let me tell you about the order we had today from a customer who spent more than $80 for a Dz longstem roses with TF and couldn't believe how bad they were. I actually saw them. 50 cm's, $1 vase and 12 stems of leather leaf with a #9 cheap-o florasatin bow. The roses were veining, soft and blue.

The customer asked why local florists needed $12.99 for local delivery....

Needless to say, we have a new customer.

Only because I was so advised, I understand that blogs are not supposed to sell.

Right or Wrong?

Why not? Blogs shouldn't be a hard sell, but both our blogs are 100% intended to pull in new business, and they both do a good job of it. We don't own a business to be simply pretty and informative.

Remember that marketing quote from earlier this week--perfecty targeted advertising is information? On our blogs, I usually try to make the blog posts informative, and demphasize the selling aspects, but people like sales and I have no problem posting a sale announcement.

Tom,

We had a customer place a very special order with us because she said our blog made us blog made our website seem so personal:

"Your blog makes your lovely website so friendly and personal that I decided to contact you with my crazy question!"

To read the customer's entire email visit the Making Lemonade post at www.ourflowerblog.com.

Blogs will definitely help you sell by putting more of a human face on your business.

Tom,

A blog is about building a dialogue with your audience and personalizing your company. I honestly doubt that anyone could sit down with you and hear you talk about your business and not want to buy from you afterwards. You're passionate about your shop and your industry and you have a tonne (that's a metric ton, tonnes are bigger than tons!) of info to share.

A blog would be a great venue for you :)
