For motivating and " waking a sleeping giant " for the Olympics. The fastest race in the Olympic swim competition was an after thought for the USA team although having probably the most talented swim team ever in the Olympics but the French team obviously had heard enough.

Clip of an article below,

" Every so often, the USA needs some encouragement to get going. This week, that encouragement came from Alain Bernard of the French Swim Team.

Talking about the upcoming 4x100 freestyle relay, Bernard made this comment when asked about Team USA: "The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for."

Bernard, my French compadre who I've never heard of before, I praise you.

One of the main events at this year's Olympics will the swimming competitions; and one of the most watched swim teams will be Team USA, who also has one of the most watched swimmers of the Olympics, Michael Phelps.

Great race, fastest relay split in the history of the world. Great competition from the Australians and the French team. Unbelieveable comback at the end.

The Americans shook their hands in a tribute of true sportsmanship.

the splits:
BEIJING, China, August 11. THE U.S. contingent came from behind as Jason Lezak scorched the anchor with a 46.06 split en route to a world-record time in the men's 400 free relay.
Michael Phelps (47.51), Garrett Weber-Gale (47.02), Cullen Jones (47.65) and Lezak (46.06) posted an astonishing time of 3:08.24. That swim completely obliterated the 3:12.23 set by the U.S. during prelims.
France took silver in 3:08.32, while Australia earned bronze in 3:09.91.

awesome....

Another French contribution to American history. Remember, if it weren't for the French, we Americans would still be speaking English.

Americans won, but just barely!!!! I stayed up to watch it. Was SOOOO exciting!!!

And that's what they get for talking so much trash.. How unsportsmanlike !!! I always say...

Don't let your mouth write a check your ass can't cash!!!

Neener neener neener ...

This is priceless ... But even better Phelps took his time on the podium to shake all of their hands to thank them for the motivation I'm sure.

Caption to read " WHHAAAHH " we lost.

Jeez, he makes me so proud. NOT. Did you see him during the opening ceremonies. He had a little American flag, and he was smacking it on his knee over and over, absentmindedly. I thought that didn't look so good.
