And while I'm ranting...I refused the directory that came last Monday, told the Postman "mark if refused".
FTD's Directory Services called me today...said they received my directory marked "refused" was there a problem.
I asked the guy to do me a favor..."Stick an inter-office memo on it and send it up to Mr. Norton's office. He told us years ago automate or vegitate, we automated and have no use for the directory. Let Mr. Norton decide what to do with it"
I know it's a HUGE cashcow for FTD, so it's not going to go away, but it gives me a small ounce of pleasure to wonder what they do or say when they receive it back.
Have a great day everybody.
Holly

Yes it truely does boggle the mind, but in reality there are over 10K FTD members that still use it,m and I would think more TF shops that do.

But you are right, its a cash cow, and until folks drop those card ads it'll stay... and that too boggles the mind, advertising for discounted work ?!??!?

Holly, Will FTD give you a credit and then stop sending you the directory in the future?

Frank

I would hope so, but I doubt it.

Even now, with Advantage we get directory updates every two weeks, keeping our database of florists current, but still get the paper copy...

I have not used one in two years myself, the electronic version is much faster and accurate, and wish it would go away...

Frank,
Wishful thinking, no they won't credit me for the book.
I've refused the last 4 directories... they keep sending them, I keep sending them back.
They do have to pay postage both ways, and take the time to call me to find out why it came back to them...just think, if we all marked them "refused"...we could create a little bit of a stir.
Holly

While I don't use the directory on a regular basis, there is still a need for it here...some shops are not computerized and they are the only shop in the area in which I need to send. I have to look them up and call direct.

During the power outage this past summer, the directory was useful as well...still had to send and receive and landline was the only option.

Congratulations,Victoria. You see something that many fail to realize and that is that computers can go down from time to time , there are power failures from time to time and you do have to have alternate means to conduct your business. Keep paper and pencil handy too! ;)

Since we only send FTD, if a shop doesn't have a mercury system, we send it to Domestic Retrans. I always want to have that paper trail, using Dom Retrans we have that. It also lets FTD know where they need better coverage. We never call out an order...so once again, we don't need the directory.
However, it does make a great booster for window displays...but please don't tell Mr Norton I found a use for it.
Holly

I don't use domestic retrans as I'd rather talk to the florist in the community...I've had issues with DR in the past. At least, when I talk to the florist I know the order has been received and looked after.

As I said above...I'm glad we had the directory during the power outage...we needed it.

Insurance ??

And like most insurance you pay inflated fees and in most cases never collect (thank God) but the directory should be OPT IN not mandatory...

Power or not, I still stay up and running, but I realize most do not...

I have'nt unwrapped the plastic off of a printed directory in two years. They come in and go straight to the recycle bin. However, I do like Holly's idea about refusing them and having TF get them back. I would have done it to FTD but they are no longer my problem.. Can you just imagine the statement that we florists would make if 20,000 directories got refused and showed up on HQ's front step!

And yet, the inside and back covers of those directories command very high fees and are coveted by many.

Amazing is'nt it George. Funny how people will do something just because everyone else is doing it. After all with all those ads in the directory, it must be a good thing right?

I find it funny some want to send it back when they are charged for the directory on those monthly statements.
If you send it back your still going to be charged for it and I don't think Headquarters is going to be willing to issue credits.

If any one doesn't need theirs...send them to me just send me a PM and I'll give you the address you can send it to. It's a great Florist to Florist Directory Tool!

Wire Service Free is working for ME.

An excellent point Blue...I've used it for that purpose as well. :)

Ditto. That directory has come in handy several times. My mom has the old book at home in case of funeral home calls, etc.

We lose power here quite a bit, we still use our paper directory.

Hey Blue,

Come and get mine - it's just sitting under the paper shreader doing nothing. I just got it today. It's yours - but you gotta pick it up. Driving eleven miles is cheaper than somone else mailing it to you.

dirctory's

Just spoke with T/F about the same thing --have not opened the last three that we got--but -they will never let go of the directory untill the florist stop advertising !!!!!!!!!!
