Hello FlowerChat!

I am the newest addition to Pittsburgh's Mocha Rose and I look forward to experiencing this online community of which I've heard wonderful thing from my ever stellar boss, April.

Being so that I'm brand new to the floral business, I have no formal training. However, I am versed in graphic design, web and fashion design- I believe the universal design concepts of fluidity and color remain the same no matter what the medium may be.

I would like to gain a more informed floral experience by the syndication of traditional styles and modern concepts from the world's top florists joined in this community.

In contribution, I can provide perspective on modern design concepts as well as provide an informed view of graphic design, marketing strategies, and web tech.

I hired Andrew a month ago and I honestly couldn't imagine a better employee. He was hired as my personal assistant, but has proved to be so much more. In his first week at work, he expressed a desire to learn design and the inner workings of the industry. I've taken him under my wings and he is learning everything from scrubbing buckets, proper conditioning, pricing, ordering and design.


He has really taken an interest in design and has amazing natural talent. I encouraged him to sign up for the site and possibly enter into the Dozen
Ways to Send a Dozen Roses contest so that he can get professional design feedback from other florists.

He in turn, is helping me in his strong suits of graphic and web design.

Andrew is someone that will go far in whatever path he chooses. I hope that it is floral design (I'm trying to convince him that it is his calling), but he will be leaving me for a bit next year to attend Parsons School of Design.

Welcome to FC Andrew! Besides graphic design, are you trained in fashion design too?

Not trained formally, just always had the eye for it. My mom always made costumes for my siblings and I, so the art was never foreign to me.

In college I tried my hand at design and put together a charity fashion show, donating the proceeds to my old high school. The show consisted of my own original work (a lot of cocktail/party dresses), additional pieces I had tailored or re-worked, as well as local boutique donations. It was the first time I actually executed my own designs.

Upon graduating from college (majoring in theatre arts and new media design) I decided I owed it to myself and my potential as a designer to go back to school and train formally- and therefore I am currently seeking enrollment at Parsons The New School for Design.

I am a total Project Runway addict (I think Robin aka Spring City is too)!!!! I would love a shot at a redo in life and I would persue Parsons as well. Can I live vicariously through you!?!?!?
