I have been an enthusiastic amateur billiards player for many, many years. I have won my fair share of tournaments over the years. About two years ago, I took a self-imposed hiatus because my eyes were giving me some problems. Well, After a few visists to the eye doctor and some new glasses in the near future......I went back to the tables tonight and picked up my cues again.

It was like I never went away.

So, for those of you who love the cue sports.......If there is a table at any of the upcoming floral show venues and hotels......look for me there. I'd love to play any of you.

O.K. "Eddie Felson" as long as it isn't for the color of money.

joe

Unlike Eddie Felson, Fatty, and a few others....I never played for gambling money......on account of one thing.......I am not a well paid florist. I can't afford to gamble.

Love the game - there was an era in my life about 18 years ago when I played in a tournament 5 nights of the week, and won quite a few but fairly consistently came in 3rd - my other 2 cronie/mates/sharks that I ran with consistently took 1st and 2nd. I still play league pool every Thursday in the winters.

I've gotten quite soft in the last few years tho, as my interests have shifted more to my business and since I quit drinking the bars where we play have lost their magic for me.

But it is my favorite sport, and one I also love to watch on TV.

Foosball anyone?

That was my game. . . .a loooooong time ago.
The wrists and reactions arn't the same anymore. But still love the sound of a good pull shot into the goal.

Played in a tourney at the Playboy Club, Chicago. $250k in prize money. None of it mine though. That was in 1973 or 74.

Loved the competition and speed of the game.

Rick,
Have you tried the mini pool game in the FC Arcade?

Yes, I have done the mini-pool game in the arcade.

As far as watching on tv.....I have gotten lately to really get into watching the trick shot competitions. Like most serious players, I have one or two trick shots in my arsenal that will entertain a small crowd or let me show off a bit.
One is a bank shot variation of the railroad. I'm working on developing a jump shot variation of the butterfly.

What game(s) do most of you play regularly?

Eight-ball, Nine-ball, Seven-ball, English Snooker, 14.1 (straight pool), or another game?

For me, my favorote games that I play most often.....Nine-ball and 14.1 (straight pool). I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have played eight-ball.

You should try it on the Wii.
Fun stuff!

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

my kids got a Wii for Christmas with Guitar hero, and others. They have it hooked up to my 52 inch dlp and I am not happy! That is all they have done since monday night.

joe

btw: Christina, age 7, can beat her old brothers and sister in bowling. I haven't even seen it work yet.

I kicked my best friend's butt in Boxing, but boy is she quick. I was physically aching the next day from our knockdown blowout battle.

BTW, no kids in her family - she and her hubby bought it for themselves. Bowling was cool too, and tennis was awesome - *UGH* as I serve, just like the pros.
Fun, especially to release those frustrations!

I enjoy watching pool, but I play like a girl.:)
Joe, I fell you're pain, My boys got Guitar Hero, and I am hoping never to hear another 80's rock song for a long time. I finally kicked it out of the living room and off our main TV. Only funny part was watching their dad and uncles trying to show the young guys how it's done!

There is nothing wrong with playing like a girl......especially if you play like Alison (Duchess of Doom) Fisher, Ewa (Striking Viking) Laurence, Jeannette (Black Widow) Lee, Vivian (Texas Tornado) Villareal, Lori Jon (Queen of the Hill ) Jones and quite a few others on the WPBA tour.
---------------------
On a Side note about playing like a girl. Lori Jon Jones holds the title for the youngest athlete in any sport to hold a world championship. Alison Fisher holds the record for most consecutive titles held in Women's billiards and has won the Player of the year title at least two times that I know of during her professional career.
-----------------------
So, I don't buy into that ...I play like a girl.......I have known too many girls....including my Mother and my Sister who can run circles around most any average man player.

My ex-wife could shoot the nuts off about 90% of the guys in the bars - used to be very funny to watch her - little 4'9" Siamese girl asking guys if they wanted to play for money.

Boy did they get mad when she beat them, but she was right down at the level of the balls and had deadly aim and shot very firmly and with authority. Not the best shape player and didn't control her cue ball that well but she was an awesome shot maker. I'd really have to gear down to beat her. (We never never played safeties by the way tho...defense yes but safes never)

sounds like another one of the pro ladies......Nikki Benish. 4 foot 7 inch tall lady.....nickname "The Giant killer"

as far as people getting mad when they get beaten............Even though I am well known in my community, people are still blown away by the fact that they got beat by a gay guy.......there has been more than one occasion where I was almost forced into using my cues in a manner that they should not be used for.

I am enjoying this thread.

I find it quite fascinating reading this thread. You are quite animated about your sport.

That is great.

"4 foot 7 inch pool playing Queen, she is the girl of all my dreams". There has to be a rock song about that somewhere.
