What a strange day I'm having not even noon , got a visit from Rock and Jane on their way to spend their fortune in St. John's , as they were leaving in comes daughter # 2 with grandson # 2, never seen a 2 year old ask sooooo many questions, as they were leaving a man and a 10-12 year old girl came in looking for an artificial cross and and artifial arrangement for the cementary, the cross is for the side of the road where the accident that claimed his wife , he started to cry which started me , usually don't get filled up with emotion , might be the fact that I was up til 2 last night putting up the tree. After serving this gentleman this morning don't thing that I'll have anything to ***** about for a while, truely counting my blessings.

*hugs* Yea, that's all it takes some days.

Hope the rest of the day goes smoothly for you, Sunny.

*hug* Kleenex is always at the ready here. Christmas is a highly charged season for emotions.

A few years back, we had funerals right through the holiday season. It is one of the emotional time of year. It seemed that when we finish with one, another pass away. It was very draining time. We hope it doesnt happen during htis time, but it does. Hugs to everyone that has to deal with funeral....
I may be on the hook myself on a few from what I am hearing out there.

Having lived in the funeral industry for a number of years, Christmas was always so difficult....especially if it was a child. We would always send up a prayer to get us through to Boxing day without a "call".

This was the first year I had to come in a do work on Christmas day , 42 year old lady who had died from Lou Gehrig's late christmas eve , got a message from the funeral home , what can you do , they (the funeral home) are my biggest customer, can't turn them away even though I had planned to spent all day in my PJ's. Ended up back in here on Boxing day and also on Sunday the 28th. 7 funerals from 24th to 29th , at least got rid of most of the flowers on hand , Christmas was down a lot. Have purchased my very last wire service container , for any occasion.

We used to be big on the wire service containers and we were both FTD & TF during this time I am referring to. First we cut back on the everyday stuff from FTD (remember all that stuff?) and then dropped FTD altogether. We were never big on the everyday stuff from TF as we learned from FTD. All of 2003 was the first time we only bought containers at Christmas and on top of that we split with two other florists, so only bought $500.00 worth. I can honestly say we did not miss the containers in the least for the other holidays. We found our own stuff, just as novel and keepable. Many could care less about the keepable part we discovered also. Lots cheaper to find your own keepsake types that's for sure if that matters, and for us it does. The transition has been way smoother than I had imagined. How in the world did we let THEM brainwash us into thinking we HAD to have those keepsakes? Sheesh.......:hammer:

That's why I always preferred belonging to...oh God...a brain fart...they were bought out by TF and they never had any containers. I also loved their Professional Florist Magazine....what is the name folks...Help...ohh...AFS?

Yeah AFS did have both its good points and its bad, but at least certain things were optional , never had to pay for a selection guide and weren't bothering you every other day to buy some crappy container to help increase .com sales , excuse me our sales, and didn't y'all just love those accents at HQ when you had to call.

We bought our last keepsake this Christmas also. Even though we sold out of the TF stuff, they are too expensive and I don't think the customers really care one way or the other. I had ordered V-day stuff but canceled all of those and I am not going to order any of the M-day stuff. I liked the TF M1 last year but I don't like this years at all. I have all the FTD crap on a table in the front of my shop priced for clearance from $1 to $1.99 and even at those prices I can't get rid of them. I marked the old TF stuff down basically to cost to get rid of them and they were all gone by this past Wed.

Hey Vicki , one of our Ftd reps used to call AFS , SFA as in that was what they were good for.

:) Our rep was terrific. She's with TF now and they are so very lucky to have her.

Hey V,

Why do you think I modeled part of Blossoms Network off of AFS?

Herman Meinders had the right idea till it got a bit too big for him to handle with a hands on approach.

Years into the future we'll do a magazine too, as here in Canada for example we don't have a good floral magazine. A cousin of mine will be Editor in Chief, he used to be very high up in Canadian Living magazine for many years till he decided to free lance.

Peter...would it be possible for you to send some info regarding Blossoms to me here? I can't make the decision as the store isn't mine, but I can certainly investigate and recommend.

Thanks.
