If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious:

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
With their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning

... Uphill...

BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
There was no way in hell I was going to lay

A bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it

And how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of
Thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my
Childhood, you live in a @@@@ Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you
Don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet.. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the @@@@ library and
Look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write
Somebody a letter, with a pen!

...Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to
Steal music, you had to hitchhike to the @@@@ record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you
Were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school,
Your mom, your boss, your Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you
Just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video
Games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games
Like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You
Actually had to use your Imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or
Screens, it was just one screen
Forever!

And you could never win.. The game just kept getting
Harder and harder and
Faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that
Was only m-net And there was no on screen menu and no remote
Control!

You had to use a Little book called a TV Guide to find out what was
On! You were screwed when it Came to channel surfing! You had to get off
Your ass and walk over to the TV to change the Channel and there was no
Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons
On Saturday Morning. Do you Hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK
For cartoons, you spoiled
Little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
Something up we had to use the stove .. Imagine that!

If we wanted Popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing
And shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids
Today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted
Five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd

Darrel,

Too funny!!!! I love the part about the cartoons!

God we had it tough back then!!! Although, I remember getting a microwave when I was maybe 9 (and I'm 40)?!?!? Granted it took popcorn 6 minutes to pop...and 75% of the time it burned...but I felt SO techno savvy!!!!!

That's the truth...I was thinking or trying to remember how old I was when we got our first TV..I think I was around 7 or 8 and there was a kids show on...you had to put a green plastic screen on it to create color...the show was Winky Dink or something...and now I am remodeling a guest bathroom and installing a small flat screen tv and ipod docking station at the tub...wow have we come along way baby! Thanks for the reminders!

I remember going to a friend's house to watch TV. His was the only family in our village that had a TV.

I remember the day my uncle bought a tape recorder. All the relatives went to his house to take a look at this latest gizmo. I sang a song and he recorded it. When he replayed my song, it didn't sound like me at all, so I insisted it's broken. He got annoyed - that's what I remember.

Darrel,

I remember as a kid looking forward to Saturday morning cartoons. Seems the big 3 networks always had a dedicated line-up of cartoons. Are there even cartoons on Saturdays anymore?

Some of those American Idol rejects should try this "tape recorder gizmo" out prior to try outs.

As I was babysitting one night for the grandgirls, I remember saying to myself, sheesh, if I had had all night channels it wouldn't have been too bad feeding and burping those kids of mine.........

I remember when, at the end of the night, the tv station would play the national anthem....and there would be nothing else on til the morning.

Remember rabbit ears and your dad telling you to "stay right there" and hold the ears in position so he could catch the last bit of the foorball game?

How funny Darrel, although we didnt even have cable tv like you lot, we had three channels and was made up when we got channel 4, it was the talk of the country lol

I too also had a microwave and most meals were heated up in there, lets say my mum wasnt the type to wear pinnys in the kitchen lol

How funny waiting for a song to come on the radio to tape it and then we had to fast forward the tape to find it and then rewind and then fast forward....

How did you think of all of these??:yourock: Just had a lovely trip down memory lane...

I am 30 years old, but I do remember a lot of these things.

The @@@@@@ DJ talking over the song I just spent hours waiting him to play on the radio so I could record it onto my cassette. Really pissed me off!!

And the fast forwarding and rewinding of the tapes...

what about when your little sister would pull out the brown tape from your cassette?! Sometimes you could CAREFULLY roll it back in, but most of the time it was lost...

I remember getting a microwave, it was the most amazing thing in the whole world.

I remember getting a VCR. You could put this black box in the machine, and it was a MOVIE. You could pause, fast forward, and rewind the movie you were watching!!! AMAZING!!

I must be one of the spoiled brats then lol

weve had cable tv for aslong as i remember
i used to get taken to school
my brother has all the latest games consoles and my little sister HAS to watch cartoons in a morning before she goes to school

my mum giggled when she read this as she remembers all of what you said

Ha ha excellent! We had one of those tv's that had the "tennis" game on it, I must have spent hours and hours playing on it.

In my day .....we had things called "record albums" . You played them on your record player or if you were really lucky you had a "stereo". If you really wanted to Jam out, you put on your headphones: (Picture the guy on the runway with the orange ping pong paddles directing planes).

We would sit for hours looking at the album cover Artwork and read every word written on the albums: lyrics, liner notes, etc...

Best Album cover ever ????? Hard one.. Sgt. Pepper? Led Zep. In Through The Out Door?? AHHH those were the days.

Jennifer

P.S. remember 8 tracks .. "Ka Chunk" !

RUSH "A Farewell To Kings"
I know I stared at that album for 6 hours...

Jennifer

RUSH: my fav.

Remember:

Prizes in Cereal boxes,
Metal Lunchboxes
45's (I always lost the plastic adapter)
Battling tops
Funny Face drinks
Staying up late to watch a "music Video" on The Midnight special.
AYDS - The appetite suppressant candy ??? haaaaaa
cracker jacks with actual prizes inside.
Crereals like: Quisp and Sugar SMacks

Jennifer

Remember records being on the back of cereal boxes..that you played on your "record player"?
Remember when soda and beer cans didn't have tabs and you had to open them with a can opener?
Remember when your mom kicked you outside and said " GO FIND SOMETHING TO DO OR I WILL FIND SOMETHING FOR YOU DO TO, AND YOU WON'T LIKE IT!"
You know, I was driving down the street the other day and actually saw some kids playing ball in their front yard and I had to take a second look. Then I thought to myself how long it had been since i saw kids outside playing in their own yard. Amazing.
I was around when the exciting video game " PONG' came out and we were never allowed to just sit around on a weekend and do nothing. We HAD to go outside, it was a rule.
