Okay, I've just gotten a call from a customer who would like something for a funeral on Thursday (only two days!) that would tribute a hunter.

She had done something for her grandfather in a fishing theme when he passed away and now she would like something for a man who loved hunting.

Any ideas, anyone? I'd like to help her in some way, but I'm having a brain fart!:scatter

What kind of hunting?

Deer or other large animals?, Quail or other upland bird? Ducks/Geese?

Ask the family if they have any calls, vests, spent shotgun shells, caps,

Also, if the guy was a duck hunter, does he have any bands? I am drawing a blank on the actual name of those game bands.....

if a deer hunter, does the deceased have any antlers?

Joe

Deer..

Joe,
He hunted deer. The customer doesn't have anything that she can give me, she is out-of-town. So I will have to come up with something myself.

Obviously, if it was fishing, I would use a fishing pole and incorporate it. For the hunting purposes, I can't exactly use a rifle. :boggles:

Just not having any success in figuring something out.

Why not incorporate branches into the theme...make the arrangement woodsy? Maybe tie in something camoflauge...like ribbon?? Hope this gets your brain started!! Love to see what you come up with.

Deer calls, fake Deer, corn, acorns (deer love acorns).

what is the hunting season firearm/archery rules? did he bowhunt deer, if so, arrows, a quiver, release etc.

Rifle? don't know what you could use there.

Shotgun? spent hulls,

Binoculars, range finders (borrow from someone if possible)

find out what the Deer hunting rules and regs are, go online to your Depart of natural resources. you may find some good stuff there.

Also, Cabellas or Bass Proshop online might give you some inspiration. Look there but buy locally - due to the timeframe.

camo? do you have to wear blaze orange while deer hunting?

you might be able to find some camo cloth at Walmart and incorporate that into the flowers.

Joe,
He hunted deer. .
We get these type of orders often, that is where these cool foam deer antlers come in handy for WR Goodin Company http://www.wrgoodincompany.com/index.php?s=products&c=1&p=9 . Besides that, you can go to your local hunting store and get a set of acrylic antlers the hunters use when the bucks are rutting (sp?).

Obviously if they brought you something of his to use would be best and would have more tribute meaning....but if not, buy a cheap orange hunter's cap.

Just some ideas.

Awesome feedback!

Well, all of you have provided some awesome feedback. It really has my mind going now.

I will check out what I can and come up with something that will work from your suggestions! :yourock:

I had to mickey-mouse an animal skull into a standing spray for a "hunter". Kinda turned out cool... if dead animal skulls are your thing.

do hunters over there wear any clothing that is specific to them such as a hat??

Do you have any Bambis in your Christmas stuff? I always like the woodsy look with lots of branches, grasses, millet. Maybe Michaels would have a paper mache Bambi, they're cheap, or is it too early?

So how did this turn out? I am curious!!!

It turned out great! I used some cardboard and split a camouflage mylar in half so I could spray mount it on the cardboard. Then printed out "Gone Huntin'" on a piece of brown paper and tacked it to the camouflage background. Placed birch branches going up the legs of the easel and did an arrangement that went diagonally on the spray bar using bells, moss, red, oranges, and yellow flowers w/ grasses and a moss sphere (to add some interest). Overall, it turned out pretty well especially for the $$. She had to spend less than she originally planned since everyone didn't pitch in the amount she asked for.

The camera was out w/ my employee delivering an event, so I'm bummed that I didn't get a picture. Would have been great to put on the website.

Thanks to everyone that gave ideas. It really got my juices flowing.
