Things to do- Asheville, NC

The Biltmore is gorgeous, we were there two years ago and they had floral arrangements that replicated those at one of the Vanderbilt girls wedding back at the turn of the century. There's even a floral design room in the house that the staff designers still use.

We were in Charlotte for the Nascar All Star race and drove over to Ashville, a few hours drive. If you have any interest in racing, all of the Nascar teams are based in Charlotte and you can visit their shops, etc.. We had a great time, everyone we met was incredibly nice and much friendlier than people are up North!

Some friends of ours have briven to Dollywood, Dolly Parton's theme park in TN from Asheville, again a few hours drive. Have a great trip and relax!

Take a ride on tthe Blue Ridge Parkway to Mt. Mitchel or go the other way to Cherokee to see "Unto to the Hills" play. The mountains are great anytime, have a great time........

The wife and one son are looking into taking a trip next week (yea, not much planning time) to Asheville, NC to visit the Biltmore Estate, including the Gardens and Winery. Anybody know of any other things to do/visit while there in the Asheville area? Thanks, Clay.

For a beer guy, aren't you going to feel out of place in that winery?????
lol,
Sher

Another stop that you'll want to make is the Folk Art Center. It is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville. It is filled with handmade items, historical collections and displays, and there are almost always demonstrators (weavers, potters, blacksmiths, etc.)

You might want to go by the Grove Park Inn also. it is a beautiful old inn with breathtaking views and 2 of the largest fireplaces that you'll probably ever see.

Thomas Wolfe's boyhood home is in Asheville, and it is very close to the Grove Park Inn. Both are very near downtown Asheville which has some interesting shops and restaurants.

If you enter NC on I-40 or I-26, stop at the Visitor's Center and get details.

You'll also be close to Cade's Cove, an area through which you can drive and see mountain cabins and farms from early settlers of the area. They also have walking areas where you can get closer to the buildings. When I was there last, deer walked within touching distance of me!

Mt. Pisgah National Park is located near Asheville. There are waterfalls, hiking trails, and beautiful views.

Wow! There is a ton of things to do in and around Asheville! And just in case you cannot tell, Asheville is one of my favorite places.
