Town of Badger to possibly relocate
Feb.26 (TWN)-Some 1,100 residents of Badger, Newfoundland might have a hard decision to make in the next few months. The possibility of relocating the entire town is now being suggested by government officials.
Yesterday, Newfoundland Premier Roger Grimes suggested the province might support a relocation plan away from the flood prone area. The current flood evacuation has many residents living in emergency shelters, waiting for floodwater and ice levels to subside.
Red Cross officials, meantime, report that nine banks will soon begin to accept cash donations for the Badger flood relief effort. They're hoping to raise enough money to provide residents with food, clothes and other necessities.
The money will also be used to replace appliances such as stoves and refrigerators damaged by the flooding more than a week ago.
