I've been home for 2 days now in a drugged up stupor trying to shake a sinus infection from hell that has my throat all jacked up, my head pounding, and other disgusting things that are too gross to mention..

Anyway, so I was watching a re-run of Law and Order. Flowers are involved in the case. There is no card or logo with the flowers or on the box. They go to a flower shop in Soho to see if the arrangement came from them.

The florist says in an oh-so-stereotypical-gay-florist-guy-talk, "It didn't come from here. This is Soho, we only use square vases." So pretentious and ridiculous.
I laughed so hard it hurt my head, plus I can't breathe.

Is that how people see florists?
What do you think?

Either fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be......some of the New York Florists DO exude and extoll that attitude. A good friend of mine who closed his shop exuded that type of attitude.

Is that the one where the murder weapon was a florists knife? It looked about ten times the size of anything I'd want to use!

I think it's more a perception of that type of store, not really florists in general. I think most people realise they won't get that attitude in a typical suburban florist shop, but may well find it in Subiaco, Leederville, South Yarra, Soho (insert trendy/rich inner city suburb here).

It's like the difference between a Floral Design Studio and a Florist Shop ;)

I've posted this before but it still makes me laugh. Rick, maybe this is your friend... although I don't know if this person is still in business.

A bride was shopping and she had a budget of $500.00 (I think, and remember this was in the 80's). She spoke to a florist with that information at hand... his response... "For five hundred dollars I'll drive by your house and wave".

I think in some areas that kind of attitude is not only tolerated, but encouraged, particularly among the nouveau riche. These shops are not meant for the average shopper and they make no apologies for their snootiness. For fun, and if you have the opportunity, visit the fashion district in Paris.

My friends shop closed three months to the day before 9/11 - The name of the shop was Picadilly Lily if I remember rightly. He is now enjoying semi-retirement with a rich bf on the Jersey shore.

The spa I'm in is known for their non-snooty attitude while still being a really nice place. I aspire to that. Friendly upscale-ness. Snooty bs pissses me off. We had a beautiful snooty shop here where the owner treated people like poo, employees and customers alike. But some people loved that place. She did end up closing.

I just like the word "snooty" hehe
