Hot off the presses...just got this message from TF:

"Learn How to Create Custom Silk Designs for Home Interiors!"

Does that mean for the company 'Home Interiors' or the interiors of someone's home?

Thought the wording was funny! Forgive me, I haven't had my coffee yet. Gotta get to :brandreco

TF is going to tech US how to make custom silks? Excuse me, but that's laughable!

No Matt Wood AIFD of Winward Silks is going to teach the participants "How to Create Custom Silk Designs for Home Interiors." Aug 17-20

Participants 'will learn how to decorate with the latest materials and color trends AND gain valuable new skills to make money for your business." according to the Gen Message.

Seriously, in their defense, I think that TF Education Center is one thing that they really have going for themselves that the other wire services do not have.

I went to their first Business Smarts Summit (on a scholarship so the trip and classes didn't cost me anything). I found it to be a wealth of information not to mention the networking with other florists which I have seen many of them on flowerchat. We were treated like royalty there. Marie is a scream!

Usually the people who teach the classes are top notch designers so it is not "Teleflora" that is doing the teaching.

I just thought the wording was hysterical!

Yes, Matt Wood can teach us professionals something. His show should be outstanding and he always has some bright new idea or invention that we might not have thought about.

He has presented several silk shows for AIFD and always seems to bring a new prespective. I have even gone to some of his mini shows at Garden Ridge and was surprised that I learned new techniques from him, even in this very crafty audience.

I am not a ws fan in general, just because but have been to the education center in OK and agree w/everything you say about how great it is and how well they treat you. Everyone should try it out and if you can't afford to, try for a scholarship (also a very cool thing)

TF experts in silks...

Having been to the OK headquarters of TF I can attest that they are enthusiasts of silks because this WS has(had) NO real flowers in their building. You would think that that a company dedicated to florists and all things floral would see fit to include fresh flowers in their facility budget.
Hmmm,

Interesting,
Keith

PS. Its sad we can not even get a fresh bouquet in a place of business that's income is based on the sale of flowers.

EEK! I got to work and read the memo, I just wilted when I saw Matt Woods name! I have the video from last years AIFD conference and he is good, would love to take his class.

I had pictured in my mind a TF book with pictures of silk arrangements we're supposed to make, or an online class, lol. My bad.....

Matt Wood

I have seen Matt at a designer show at Dallas Market - he is great and I wish I could attend the TF class. I am not familiar with his book - more info?

Thanks
Donna

I have known Matt for a long time, He is so good with silks and so personable. I would love to take his silk class.

I have used his glue and chocolate brown spray paint cake soooooo many times till it ain't funny

It is TF teaching, their team...
Marie is the vice pres. of education..

The team of designers that TF has is ALL top notch designers. I love going there. Joanna, Maries assistant, is so wonderful as well, very helpful and accommodating.
I would recommend their school over and over.

Now with that said, I'm totally looking forward to taking a class w/ Phil!! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Also, I personally know 2 designers who are graduates of The Design Institute....
Pretty good designers I must say.....

education, education, education is the key no matter what you do....

sure......you take green or white styrofoam......cut and shape it into a cake shape....either a round cacke or a sheet cake shape......then you smear and pour a thick coating of oasis pan melt glue all over the cake shape.

make sure you do this on a metal surface coated with pam, non-stick pray so your glue won't stick to the table.

after the glue dries.......spray the entire thing with Design Master October Brown paint. The October brown color matches the color of milk chocolate perfectly.

Now you have a fake chocolate cake that will let you showcase all kinds of coke flower decor.

If you want Vanilla icing - then spray the cake with Design Master Ivory color.

You will use a LOT of glue.

You can see this technique by viewing one of J's shows (it should be in one of the first three seasons, I don't remember which one).

Thanks guys for the info, that would take a lot of glue! I haven't had much luck with paint sticking to hot glue, will have to try again I guess.
