They can and do fluctuate depending on the other member comments placed in your reputation folder based on their reaction to your public postings, if people so choose to comment on your comments....does that make any sense? (jibber jabber).(dang I'm tired)

Allot depends on who give positive and who gives negative...they are viewable in the USED CP, far left button on the Menu Bar.

Thanks Boss.. Now I get it.. and look I have new dot's...Tracy:blowkiss:

one more question please, when you hold the courser right under the little green dots it says different things!! everybody's does who puts it there.. I really like what mine says..:dunno:

The user comments found by hovering over the dots are system defined, and change based on the level of reputation points one achieves.

Yes, you are a "jewel" ;)

I say screw the green dots. Screw the red ones!
If having more dots is a status thing, then I will never get to the top.
I don't bother to know that I have more or less!
If it is there to make it look that you are more popular, I don't care.
I am who I am and will speak my piece on any subject I wish without thinking that I may get another dot or loose one.
It is almost like a childish type program as far as I am concerned.

Most of the dots that I have received were from posts that people thought were very compelling and though provoking from a business stand point. Others I got from standing my ground on issues that I was talking about. Some I got from saying what needed to be said regardless if it was not a positive thought or down right blunt.

Some people hand out a lot of dots, some like what you say but don't use the dots. Some people don't even know what the dots are. You will notice that the people that talk the most about business issues get more dots than people that post about design, color, technique etc. This is a very business oriented board. I also think that the more business oriented folks would be more inclined to use the features that this board has to offer, not sure why and I may be way off base on that. The amount of reputation recieved is also derived by how much reputation the rep giver has. So if someone with 5 dots gives someone a dot it goes up a little, but if someone with 500 dots gives someone a a dot it goes up quite a bit more....

I like the reputation thing. It lets me know where I stand with people. Not that I base what I say on if I am going to get green or red dots, I have posted many things that I thought I may get a red dot for, but I know for sure who is like minded and if i needed to actually speak outside of the boards, I know who I would call on the phone. It gives me a sense of real friendship on a otherwise virtual existence..They make everybody real to me...

Tracy, Hope this helps and don't worry, keep posting and you will get dots...green or red doesn't really matter...Be true to yourself and say what you need to..

Well then get crackin' lady....what the heck are you doin on here...

The reputation thing. . . .

is also a quick way to send someone a short note to say "thanks for posting that" or "GREAT post", or "BAMA, you're a Genius" or . . . .

Or, "THAT Stinks" or "Please try to be nice", or "BLOOMZ, try to be more conservative" or . . .

Or perhaps a rectal craniotomy?

The dot system harkens way back to the original BBS days when BBS systems were independent little groups run on home computers. Then, like now, many people chose to hide behind aliases and behave rudely to other posters or make nasty comments. The reputation feature was added to several BBS type programs as a way to enable bbs subscribers to identify problem members and filter out those the posts of those people. With a bad enough reputation, the system operators had a way to identify and remove these people - much like our credit card friend.
