Founded in 1968, my wife & I bought Designs by Gordon in 2002. The towel has been thrown in.

I want to thank all the folks I have known via this web site (and those I got to know over at the other place). And those I have met at design schools, meetings, TF Regional Board of Directors, AIFD, etc.

Way too many to thank all, but in particular (in no special order): hugs, handshakes, etc to: Erline, Boss and Toto. Others know who you are and thanks.

I wish I could say that it has been a fun ride, a cool experience and so on. It hasn't. We simply threw away 6 1/2 years of our life and everything else.

I wish all of you the best.

Best wishes for you in the future, David. Godspeed.

Sorry to hear that.

Please don't think of it as wasted years - surely you have learned something during that time! Good luck in your future endeavors.

If you want, gimme a ring next week....

May God lead you down the path He has chosen for you.

We'll MISS YOU David, but stick with us!

Dear David: So sorry to learn of your decision to throw in the towel.

However, I can understand why! The economy out here is really TOUGH and while July was a looser, August has been the worst. We went from SLOW/DEAD to DEAD/STOPPED.

Good Luck to both you and your wife, as you explore new endeavors, and if you find anything out there, which makes you some SERIOUS MONEY, please keep your old friend TOTO in mind.

I'd be looking for a job where I can sit on my BIG FAT ARSE ALL DAY, pretty much DOO NOTHING, and on a rare occasion, authorize one or two things a week, which would justify my job description. In return, I'd need $100K per year (net) plus bonuses, stock options, and the usual Golden Parachute awards in additional to a FREE LIFETIME retirement pension as well as FREE LIFETIME Medical insurance benefits.

While this might sound like a GOVERNMENT JOB, I'd be willing to work in the Corporate World as well. lol

And PLEASE stick with us on flower chat, as you will always be a part of this family.

Your Friends, John and Linda

Sorry to hear that. This is a tough business, with the economy the way it is now.

Don't look at it as though you wasted all that time and money. Think of all the friends you have gained as well as insight to the floral industry and the challenges that face small business.

Boss is right, God will lead you down the right path he has chosen for you and your family.

David, if you are still watching/reading.

What is it that
1 You didn't do or know when you went into the flower business?

2 After your rather short term [I've been around for most of 60 years] in the flower business, what advice would you give to someone wanting to get into the flower business?

3 Knowing what you know now, and if you could the right things this time around,
a. what would you do differently?
b. would you do it again with the smarts you have learned?

Finally, what are you going to do after closing the shop?

Everything we do is a chapter in life's lesson... You're just turning the page on a new chapter ......

David, I wish you and Linda the best as you close this chapter of your life and begin another. Randy is right, it is one of life's learning experiences, it will become part of who you are tomorrow.

You know I'm always here for you, anytime.

Best always and big hugs,
Erlene

Brighter days ahead

Whenever I see a "throw in the towel" post I feel a little sick. I have seen this industry take its toll on two families I know. One went bankrupt. Its getting more competitive and harder to make a buck. Please don't think you wasted your time-you did not. You made a lot of people happy, you provided a valuble service and most likely worked your asses off.
The problem is, and we will most likely see this in the new movie starring Jennifer Aniston as a florist, is that people think its a delightful, easy way to make a living. Rather, its hard work, you have to give up a lot of your personal life to make it work. And even then, it does'nt always work. I have no doubt you will look back at this as a learning experience and move on to better things. via con dios!

Aw, I don't like these kinds of posts either, it makes me sad. But I guess better to get out if it's not working for you. I hope after the smoke has cleared you can see some value in the experience. This is a tough biz.

David:
So sorry that it has ended this way for you and your wife.

Take all those sour lemons that you have rolling around right now, and as you start on your new path, make some new lemonaide.

You ahve gained a lot of valuable lessons (and some probably expensive ones!) in the last 6 years. Don't look at your attempts as failures. It was a learning experience.....a very hard one.

Best of luck in your new path, whatever that may be.

Regards,
Cheryl

David I am sorry to hear this.

But it does take a strong minded business person to know when it is time to throw in the towel. I Agree with the post that say you did not waste your time. You have 6 1/2 years of running a business and that looks pretty good on paper. I will bet that its not that you failed but that you realized that you could do something better then spending the time and resources that is needed in running a flower shop.

Good luck with your next venture and I am sure you will take everything that you learned from this experience and make it that much better with the next one.

David and Linda,

All the best to you both in your new ventures. I'm sure you will land on your feet. Whatever you have done this past 6 1/2 years will serve you well as you go forth with zest. God Speed!
