Ok,

So here's the drama....

We inherited a mother's day wedding.. holy moly..

more drama... the bride has a very limited budget, $700.

more drama... bride is MY HUSBAND'S cousin...she decided to go with the "other" florist because they were cheaper. She wants Blue hydrangea, lily of the valley, gardenias in her bouquet alone. That sort of arrangement would cost around $300 here. I also told them that lily of the valley doesn't fair so well here in Durango, and gardenias are even worse, She wanted handtied with stems exposed.... Tried to explain that all the flowers in that will melt down and quickly.

more drama....The old owner of Aprils quoted....get ready......$95....more holy moly...and also said she'd do those flowers, no problem.

I have removed myself from the situation, Amy and I both agree it's best.

So here's my question:
Are lily of the valley any hardier than they used to be? How about gardenias? I have avoided using them for years. Not since my Oklahoma days....
If you arrid area florist DO use them what do you do to process them?
How well do they hold up?

As Connie said a couple of days ago I should write a book.
Drama drama drama

Any advice would be helpful.

Good luck Shannon with this quest!

I can...

I can name that song in 1 note....Sounds like "Undercut" by Clueless Designer....good luck making any money on that one. You're better off not doing that wedding, especially on a holiday weekend. Consider it a blessing that they chose the other one.

You misunderstand....

WE NOW HAVE THE WEDDING, because Amy bought the "other" store.

Like I said, it's always dramatic in Shannon world!

oops,

Well, inform the bride that due to the floral holiday, there will be a significant increase in price. yucky situation....I feel for you in this case.

Shannon, we have a very dry climate here, tough to keep anything going esp after it is cut. My old boss always soaked the gardenias in C&G before handling them, they were the last thing to be wired in and then he soaked a paper towel in C&G and laid that on top of each flower before wrapping the whole bouquet in a large plastic bag. We never had any problem with them or complaints. If I was your designer, I would use a bridal holder and faux stems and insert well processed hydrangeas into that. I soak the heads when they come in, dip into a Elmers glue solution, cut with clippers put into a bucket with lukewarm water, let dry and put into the cooler. If you make the bouquet the day before then the next morning you can catch any that aren't properly inserted and have gone down. You can use 2 hydrangea and get a huge look with that by separating the florets. I mist like crazy before it goes out and I include a water spray bottle from the dollar store for a designated person to mist the bouquet with during the day. I can't help you with lily of the valley, been awhile since any brides have wanted that here.

It will all work out, and it can be done for the price quote, and it will be fabu...also on the comment of the price increase,,you really shouldn't do that, it is in bad taste, unless they already had it in the contract, that it is subject to change,,,,It will be all great,,,

Well Queen, she didn't put down a depost, no contract at all, so That's up to Amy to decide. I don't know what her plans are. And remember, that's what I told her it would be from us...

I know it's all so confusing...

And I seriously cannot do it for that price, Amy will loose big time on this.

If you want to tell me how to to this for $95, I'm sitting upstraight and listening....
I'm serious, any pointers would be helpful.

oh I thought that it was already booked, then hey don't worry about it,,,,ok for this,,

Handtied
3 Hydrangea 6.00
1 Bunch of lilly of valley is like 4.95 at that time,
3 Gardenia 9.00 total

There it is a one chennel stem, tape and it will take no time to put togeather unless, I missed something on the menu...
