I noticed Ted said the smell of the smoke was getting worse....
Hugs and prayers for any of you in the way of those fires. Watching them on CNN and Fox News is horrendous. Please stay safe and if you're told to.....
LEAVE.

Excellent post. Sending good thoughts your way.

Be safe...

Sad to say, it's not any better this morning, in fact it is getting worse if thats possible.

Concern is that the only thing thats going to stop some of these fires is when the burn their way to the ocean...

Be safe, don't try to be a hero...

Bricks and boards and stuff can be replaced, human life can not be.

Prayers......

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!

we have friends in the area of these fires, that we have NOT been able to contact.
This is a true tragedy...so much hard work, so many family lives, and such a beautiful area being literally wiped out in minutes, and it's even MORE disheartening to learn, that there's a pretty good chance, that some of this, was as a result of arsonist(s).

We had much less howling wind last night here compared to Sunday night so I had hoped to read better news this morning. Unfortunately, the OC Register says that many more homes in our county had to be evacuated at 1 am this morning. :(

It's so dry - the humidity level is between 5 & 10% and after a year of little rainfall, the canyons and hills are just full of dry brush. Add the wind and there's little chance of containing these fires.

We aren't directly threatened by the fires, but as Ted said, the smoke and smell are everywhere. Our home smoke alarm went off briefly yesterday morning and it scared the bejeezes our of me since we live on a hill above a very dry canyon.

The most eerie part was when the wind shifted yesterday and pushed the smoke clouds directly over the area of our shop. The streets take on a weird orangish-yellow glow that looks other-worldly.

We have two corporate events today - both in tents. I held off making the arrangements for as long as possible, fearing cancellations - but both are going forward. The event planners said the tents were going up last night. I hope they're still in place this morning.

I spotted tents and awnings in shreds on my way to work yesterday, and many downed trees.

Spoke with Eric late yesterday and they had lost power for a while in the afternoon. (They're much closer to the big OC fire than us.) According to the newspaper, a big chunk of the county is without power or phone service this morning.

I pray for the more than 300,000 people that have been evacuated from their homes here in So Cal. Right now, it is truly a disaster here for many families.

Sending thoughts for safety, prayers for rain, and strength for those who are fighting the battle. Stay safe.

I remember that from our own fires this spring - it is so strange, you think it's a funky kind of raincould, till you smell the burning timbers, and the chunks of ash float down. Very bizarre.

The acrid smell and ash comes to visit us from time to time when Quebec has bad fires. To know that it is coming from hundreds of miles away is amazing. I wouldn't want to be as close as some of you are. It has been many years since we've had a "local" wildlfire and our teams usually contain them quite fast but we always fear those dry years... Keep safe.

To all the SoCal florists, stay safe, we're thinking of you.
