Shows absolutely not one florist made design. All are shipped direct.
Ironic that at the bottom of the page is their classic "Flowers from FTD Florists are the freshest...."
Absolutely frustrating and maddening.
Are .com and FTDI still "different companies" or not.
My rant for the day (I can feel my blood pressure rising like the price of gas)

The line keeps getting fuzzier and fuzzier every minute.....

Thing is...nope... remind me after convention...can;t say it yet...

As I understood it, they merged a few years ago, and that was one of bad Bobby's better bonus cheques.

No, they have been the same company since FTDI purchased all the shares of .com back in 2002. That purchase/forced-sale begat a shareholder lawsuit and I believe FTDI had to pay out about $10M in a settlement. For more details, read These Flowers Stink from Motleyfool.com.

It is no wonder that FTD features direct-ship products on the home page. They are higher margin items and generate more profits than the florist-delivered products. FTD may complain loudly to florists about ProFlowers but they appear to be doing more to mimic them every day.

FTD's stock has been below IPO since nearly day one so the management team has to do something to show they can generate revenue. Take a look at the value compared to 1-800-flowers.

In other words, I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of promotion of florist-delivered flowers from them until the next holiday.

Yup... some logic... Holiday advertising is at best break even... I do not do much if any at a holiday as I know I will already be as bizzy as I wanna be...

Be nice if someone would do some generic advertising for the slower times...ala the BUZZ of old... the WS's gear theirs toward holidays trying to fight each other...advertise for me when I need it, not when I don;t...

It's threads like these that help me get through the emotional part of discontinuing my affiliation with FTD at the main store.

This is a pm that I sent to one of our members here at Flower Chat. After typing it I thought I would share it with all of you. I have left out the name of the person who I was corresponding with for privacy purposes.

Hi ______:

Yes, after 53 years at the main store, I have cancelled my membership with FTD. Bear in mind, this was not an easy decision. Prior to 1993, FTD was a "family" .... an associaton of like mind florists. We, the FTD family, worked together and that is what made FTD a household name. Unfortunately, ever since the association buy-out in '93, the owners have mutilated the good name of the FTD Brand and Logo.

From a sentimental stand point it was like paying my last respects to a loved one.

From a business stand point, it is the right move. Today's FTD, under its current management will continue to undercut its member florists. In other words, if FTD can sell and deliver product in your area, they will do it and cut out the local florist.

The current management lacks the creativity to prosper with its network of florists. The current management is short sighted in its vision. The internet is here to stay, but the internet can not establish personal relationships with its customers and recipients like a full service florist.

Joe

.... FTD is emulating Pro-flowers and 1800flowers more and more everyday and continuing to distance itself from Teleflora. I hope Teleflora notices!

What's The Big Problem

I don't see what the big problem is with FTD. From the way I see it is that there are so many poor performing florists unable to deliver quailty flowers at the price FTD says the market is willing to pay, so they are going to direct ship.

I think this will all change soon when they increase the quality assurance fees to $80.00 a month, and get more florists onboard who are willing to deliver top quality flowers for $19.99 including the delivery fee minus the 30% that FTD needs to bring these quality orders to FTD florists.

ewwwwww......

aren't we all just getting a little cynical here!!
Tis true, things aren't what they used to be...I would hope that MOST of you saw the "writing" on the wall LONG before FTD decided to go head to head with ProFlowers and 1800Flwrs
The FTD company is ONE company, that was SURE that IF it brought the "new realm" to it's member florists, FTD members would catch on right away, cause we're all so smart, and savy, and have LONG TERM strategies in place.......NOT!!
You are correct.....ALL major players are bypassing the traditional florist, and your JUST NOW NOTICING??
How long you gonna wait for that Merc/Duck order to pop up, and WHAT on earth are we gonna do when that "order" ain't forthcoming??
Be THE BEST player you can be in YOUR market, and when there is NO LONGER, any room in your tool box for a "traditional" wire service, do what Joe did.....just say "NO MORE"!!

For clarity I should add that I discontinued FTD at the main store because I receive very few florist sent orders. Most incoming is .com and grocery store orders. The dollar value of incoming orders do not justify (offset) the cost of membership.

It was a business decision based on lack of incoming orders and profitabilty. I send outgoing with TF. So, I didn't really need FTD.

Also, my branch shop will remain FTD, for now.
