Today's Job

I have a friend who coordinates events for a local hotel. She was swamped this weekend and asked me to help with a wedding. My job: make sure everyone gets down the aisle in the correct order & make sure the chapel doors stay CLOSED after the seating starts! This was apparently the bride's big request for the day. When I met with her and her step-mother, she said 'even if it's my biological mom, I don't want the doors opened.' So I'm thinking, $75 bucks (cash) for 1 hour of work telling people what to do = easy money.

HA!

First, the guest book attendant comes in crying. (She's 14 or 15.) Then her dad goes outside & gives a group of younger guys the evil eye. When the boys come towards the chapel, the dad goes and gets in the boys face. Right in his face! I couldn't hear what was said, but I'm thinking that I'm going to have to step in and calm things down. Luckily, nothing happened & everyone separated on their own with just a bit of grumbling.

So we get the wedding party down the aisle and I'm standing outside with the chapel custodian. (She's about 5'4" and mid-sixties. Very petite woman.) Half way through the ceremony a family comes down the sidewalk. So I go up to them and tell them that the bride & groom have requested that the doors not be opened and they will have to wait outside & watch through the windows. The man REALLY doesn't like this. He starts yelling at me & saying that he's the groom's brother & everyone knew he was going to be late and I'd 'better' let him in. Somehow I stayed between the him and the door. Then he storms off saying he'll be back 'with the car.' The sidewalk is one of those really wide ones that you could drive a car down. So the custodian and I are thinking he's going to drive down here! CRAP! And she takes off after him! (Remember-petite, sixties...) Luckily, the ceremony ended before he came back.

I swear the only reason he didn't get physical was because I'm a girl and we're in Arkansas! :)

From now on, I'm a florist ONLY--no more bouncer gigs!

Wow..I thought you were gonna say he drove into the place to get in. lol lol

For a little while, I thought he might!

I've always thought planners didn't get paid nearly enough for what they have to put up with.
