So,
since I'm not going to symposium, I was gonna take a cruise to mexico...

Well, now we have pig flu.... (((sigh)))

So I decided to rent a beach house in San Diego, my favorite place in the world.

Anyone ever rented a beach house there? Any advice?
Anyone know anyone with beach house rentals?

I am so excited I could scream!
:calidream <--------------me!

going by what I see on tv....I would assume that a week is almost as much as you would spend on symposium.

I don't think so Ricky, especially after what you told me you were payin'...

I'm over it, I need a vacation that is un-flower related!!

Thanks for the e-mail BTW.
I think it's just not in the cards for me to go to KC.

awwww too bad I wasn't still in SD...I'd rent you a private beach house on Camp Pendleton where the beach is pretty empty and GORGEOUS!!!

Have fun Shannon...sounds like a good plan!

Shannon, do it and enjoy it. I'm planning a trip next May in Ireland. At first it was going to be chock a block full of stuff to see and do... now, I'm renting a small "coach house" and a car. I'll move at will and whim and work will not come in to the equation once I'm there.

I'll visit local members of FC and that's the extent of anything work related. :)

I did my son's wedding last June in San Diego and it's so beautiful there.
As far as renting, I could e mail my daughter in law, she works in property mgmt and probably could ask her boss.
Let me know. Good choice for vacation, don't forget to walk all through and around the hotel del coronado on Coronado, If you go to the zoo, go Early morn or at dinner time. The animals hide during the day. There's the wild animal park up north that's like Africa, if you like that sort of thing.

I love vrbo.com. We've used it to stay in places in Gatlinburg - Tn, Miami - Fl, and even San Juan, Puerto Rico. I love getting to talk to the owner of the property and not working with some third party who has no idea about the area. All three times we've used it the owners have sent us maps, coupons and info about the area before we even arrived.

Good luck!

Thanks guys!

I used to live in San Diego many moons ago, when I was little. We moved to New Mexico when I was 5.

I am a California girl at heart, I go there as often as I can! I'm so excited!!!!

Just to clarify.

You think your chances of getting swine flu are less in San Diego than on a Mexican cruise?

IIRC there are 36,000 Mexican workers crossing the border from Tijuana into San Diego DAILY.

Where would the cruise be arriving/departing from?

Just wondering, as I'm going to Puerto Vallarta after Mother's Day, and have no intention of changing my plans unless they cancel all flights!!!

There are some that are infected here in SD, it's caused a mini panic. Those masks are flying off the shelves at all the Home Depots.

I'd have to say it might be a bit more than that. It is a sight to see though....all those hard working Mexicanos willing to go the distance for their job! What a novel idea...hmm!!:thumbsup

You're right...it may be more than that.

I'm only quoting from the tour guide on my bus last October.

That's why there are 24 incoming vehicle lanes at the border crossing...incredible.

There's discussion about temporarily closing the San Diego/Tijuana border.

One local school was closed due to a student's infection.

I have used VRBO for Pocono home rentals. My brother has used for NYC and Hawaii. You can get a nice home for the money. Just be careful if it's not new. Make sure there are lots of pics and some reviews. Our first Pocono home was horrible. The pictures were not current and they were not of every bedroom. Look for homes that use words like NEW, REMODELED, SPOTLESS, ETC. Make sure the place charges a cleaning fee, in my experience you will then be certain in is in fact CLEANED. If there is a pool or hot tub, make sure these are cleaned between rentals as well.

I have heard that Carnival Cruise Lines are not disembarking on any Mexican cities, they are being cautious. My brother is to go out of Miami on the 8th May, 7 days, no stops in Mexico per email this afternoon.
Shannon!
How about the Laek arrowhead/Running Springs area mountain cabins???
Or
MAlibu or LA, lots to do there for a former California girl!!!
Good luck and safe travels.

Eddie, I did look at some lake can't remember which one it was...

yep, we are going with Catalina Island. I am so stoked! I plan on doing nothing but chillin' and looking at the ocean.

I used to be a mermaid you know!

I just have to now figure out where to park our car, where to leave it cause I don't think we can take it to Catalina.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Lol, you'd have a hard time driving your car over water

There are a few parking areas at the terminal. Also, near the Queen Mary and another near the harbor. I'm sure there are more but those are the only ones I can remember. Best bet would be, if you're flying, get a transfer from the airport to the island.

It's been ages since I've been to Catalina. Used to have a friend that lived in Costa Mesa and we'd head over to Catalina for lunch. But, that was almost ten years ago. Anyway, it's beautiful - you'll love it!

Where ever you are takiing the boat to Catalina should be a parking area, this is common to traveling to Catalina. Check the web sites for boat trips to Catalina.
Great bars, rent a moped to travel the island, the hill top over looking the harbor is great, and the casino is fun. There was a little bar to the left of the dock in fishing village that was real fun, lots of partying there.
Enjoy!
