Well today Alana and Shawn head to Nicaragua... Shawn for 12 days, Alana for an undetermined amount of time.

She has promised to keep me posted so "you can keep your friends posted" as much as she can with the limitations she is sure to encounter.

So, please keep a warm thought for them on this adventure.

Thanks.

God Speed

The illusion of time and space will be transcended by the fact our thoughts of protection, harmony, health and happiness are with them constantly, instantly and eternally.

Peace Profound,

My question is How can she afford all of this time off?
WHich job will let her off for a unlimited of time?
Or does she have a sugar Daddy on the side?
Luc

Safe passage for them both. Oh, to be footloose and fancy free once again

Thank you all. She is the most important gift of my life and I do worry.

Luc, she doesn't need a sugar anything... she's pretty resourceful and works hard without taking holidays for a couple of years at a time. It's quiet in the summer for her, so the timing is perfect for adventures in travel. :)

:) They've made the first leg of their journey... and I'm not sure if I should be calmed by her mail. Shawn is the "Mr" she's talking about. He was pretty adamant about following the straight and narrow path and living in higher end hotels. Alana is more the cubby hole kind of traveller... any closet for five bucks is fine with her. By the way, they've been travelling since 1:00 this morning. They should be pretty whipped by tomorrow. Here is a link to the beauty of Ometepe.

Hey All!
Wanted to let you know that we arrived safe, but not so sound, in
Managua and managed to find our way to Granada with little trouble. Mr. You
Won´t Be Dragging Me To Any Local´s House, met some drunken Nicos on
the plane and made plans to travel to Ometepe with them and stay at their
brother´s place/hotel/den/I don´t know what!
I will try to email before we leave for Ometepe but I am not promising
anything.
So far Nicaragua is amazing. It´s strange but it kinda feels like
coming home!
Love you all!

Luc, full time work with a 2 weeks hol/year was the end all and be all once upon a time, as were benefits, pensions etc., IMO et al. more to life than committing to all that just yet. Work hard, save hard, go travel!!!! Work along the way, do it now before kids etc and savour that experience!

Jobs just aren't seen like that anymore, (work, work, work...pension...work, 2 wks hol/year) cause there is less faith in one institution and more to be experienced abroad, Jobs will still be there when you get back from a 6 month hol. or 2 year work/travel experience etc.

ps. I just had a backpacking girl here from Port Stanley, Ontario, same deal, long travels, work here and there ( and everywhere, what an experience!) and she'll get a job when she gets back to Canada, no worries.

Port Stanley is a stones throw from me. :) Franca you are so right. If I had to do it over again, I would do as Alana is doing now. Sure I worry and I absolutely miss her, but I am so proud of her ability to follow her passion, which is travel. We are a long time dead... may as well enjoy the gifts out there while we can.

:)

By the way according to her Facebook update, she wishes she could take everyone she knows to Nicaragua... because in her words, it is "f.......g fantastic!" ;) That's my girl.

The adventures of Alana, the next installment.

Hey all!
I hope everyone is doing well!
We had a great time in Granada! The city is great. Our dinners have
been our biggest expense. The prices are pretty steep. Two entrees, a
bottle of rum (Nicaraguan bottle service) and five tequilas for $25. I
almost feel bad about the price but then I order another beer fo 75 cents and forget about it.
We are now on the Island of Ometepe and are in heaven! We took the boat equivalent of a chicken bus from San Jorge to Moyogalpa and then
jumped in the back of a truck to our hotel (Finca Venecia) in the middle of nowhere on the water and at the bottom of Concepcion (the bigger of the 2 volcanos). We have our own cabin right on the water with the volcano at our backs. Showers are cold and there are lizards and scorpions about, but we have a porch with a couple of rocking chairs and are dealing just fine. Nicas love their rocking chairs and now, so do we!

Today is a tour free day as we were up pretty late drinking rum and
beer with a couple we met on the boat and a local tour guide. The only
excursion is to send off some emails and pick up more rum.
We donï½´t know how long we are staying here and it is a 45 min chicken
bus ride to get to a computer so I donï½´t know when I will send more
emails.
I do know that when Shawn leaves I am heading back to Granada for a
week to take some Spanish classes. It is dirt cheap so if anbody wants to join me I will buy the first bottle of rum ($3). Then I am likely
coming back to Ometepe to volunteer on a farm.

A local told us that Ometepe is in the running to be one of the new 7
natural wonders of the world. There is a website you can go to and vote. You should all check it out because it is an amazing place.
Gotta run now and wait 2 hours for the chicken bus that runs every 30
mins.
Love you all!
Alana

Today they are in Leon, and have no idea what day it is. I'm glad the dictionary went to a good home and worthy person. :)

We are in Leon (just got here). I hope you didn´t want that Spanish
dictionary back......I kinda gave it to a guy we met who was trying to
learn English but didn´t have the opportunity to buy books like that.
Sorry. I will get another one here. I think I will stay in Leon to take my
Spanish classes instead of going back to Granada. I will try to call
you tomorrow. I have NO idea what day that is.
Love you!"

I was beginning to feel concern... actually I was worried out of my mind today and could barely concentrate. I haven't heard from this child in fricking days! She is now on her own as Shawn came back to London yesterday. Any way she is somewhere in Nicaragua and I'm glad she's ok. And by the way, I miss her.

Hey all.
Wanted to let you know that you arenï½´t rid of me yet. I am on Laguna de Apoyo, which is about 2 hours from where I meant to end up but I am loving the wrong turn. Iï½´m staying at a place called Craterï½´s Edge. It is pretty spectacular here and I think I may stay awhile, but plans do
change frequently and easily here. The place is pretty secluded (not
secluded enough to not run into a certain friendï½´s friend....you know who you are) and there are no tvï½´s (but they have wireless.....) so I do
not get to watch the fffffffing basketball game. I was going to stay in
Managua again tonight to watch it but I needed out of that HELL HOLE!!!!!!!!!
Hope all is well.
Love
Alana
