Anyone ever travelled to Mombasa, Africa - Diani Beach?

We have a friend who is getting married there this fall & we've been invited. It would be the first real vacation for hubby & me since ..... 2004.

I love to travel, but don't usually get to anymore, especially out of the country, especially somwhere really exotic like Africa. Fun!

Gee Tracy... Alana is going to Africa this summer for 2 months. I'm not sure of their itinerary yet, but I'll ask her.

Tracy, you will definitely need shots and quinine to take with you for malaria and the like.

Alana is a pincusion.

Good tips - thanks! Hmmm, the shots I'll have to break to hubby - he's a pansy when it comes to shots, big baby. lol

I will happily pick up or deliver anything you need, for my modest 80/20 split we're all used to. :>

We'll have to look into airfare & whatnot, but the deal is that we stay for free in a hotel they're renting for the whole group. Fun!

Go to Travel Zoo to look for deals.

We found when we went to South America that is was easier to contact your local health dept for "exotic" shots. Most doctors don't have easy access to immunizations for yellow fever etc. The Health dept will know what drugs you would need. Especially malaria drugs, some areas have resistant types and need different drugs. Start early because some vaccines are a series over a period of time.

also make sure your tetanus, measles, mumps, dipt. are up to date.

Have fun planning!

I don't know if Reverend Spammer will go for that, they might want their own shipping company to do it for less :)

That is if their stolen credit card clears....LOL!

I went to Kenya 20 years ago. Seem like yesterday. Get you jabs and take you malaria tablets and take a comprehensive firstaid kit. We flew into Mombasa Airport. It was how should I put it - different and dis-organised so make sure you are very organised and make sure you lable your luggage very clearly. Are luggage nearly ended up in switzland on the way home but a few of us noticed are luggage going on another aircraft and told the flight staff. Mombasa was surrounded by shanty towns. But saying that it was a real experience. Just remain open mined and be very careful.

All good advice...shots, etc...make copies of passports and keep them in a separate bag...carry handy wipes, and a few rolls of Charman, and even lysol wipes...
sounds like an awesome time...

Good advise, Kristine. Go to the health department and get started early. They are also much cheaper at the health department.
