I have a March bride who wants a tropical wedding for not a lot of money. Don't ya love it? We're having trouble deciding what cost effective flowers can be used for the pew clips that will keep a tropical theme. Any suggestions? Her colors are purples, hot pinks, and greens. Using orchids, mini callas, amaryllis, lilies as the focal flowers. These being too expensive to be used for cost effective pew decor, I need some other ideas.

Make bows out of ti leaves....

Ivy,

The cool thing about using tropical colors is that just about any flower can magically appear tropical just by it's color. Liatris is a good choice along with hot pink roses, bells of ireland, godetia, and even bouvardia. And don't forget the monstera, aspidistra or red ti leaves.

Other flowers that are completely non-tropical (hot pink mini carns) can be used in place of other accent flowers. OH, don't forget the hot pink wax flower or heather.

Good Luck!!

What kind of budget are you talking on these pew decorations??? That may help in suggestions...

Tropical flowers

I'm in the same situation, have a wedding next week and they wanted all expensive tropical stuff but small budget. I am using Cerise pink Dendrobiums, hot pink and orange gerberas, green anthuriums, and turquoise decorative wire from oasis along with monstera leaves, typha grass, hypericum in green, flexigrass etc.... should look good. her table arrangements are tall vases with turquoise water and hand-tied arrangements in the top. I will use bells of ireland in those too for some height. threading dendrobium orchid heads on grasses always looks good, they might go nicely in your pew ends. good luck!

I find that floor length rivercane adds a creative touch to a pew, it can be clusted, straight lined, or a floral foam holder can be threaded with them also, then a few feature flowers or greens can be used.
Simply cluster some rivercane together with some raffia or mechanics, then weave a leaf or two through, add a orchid spray, anthurium, or similar.
It can be done with three pieces even more simplier.

Good lUck and enjoy your wedding.

Like Eddie recommended with the rivercane, I think it's very dramatic to have long....to the floor....accents in pew/chair bouquets. A couple of peices of lahala foliage or a cluster of long lily grass with the focal point being framed by a larger leaf. Depending on the budget, you may be able to use an extra large anthurium in a bright color as the focal. It may cost the same as "many" garden flowers. Another idea would be to let your lilies open prior to the event, you can get several "focals" from one stem of multi-bloom lilies. Keep your mechanics simple. Try tubing your focal flowers instead of using a large bouquet holder. You can wrap the tubes with foliages. If you choose to use a holder, try covering or wrapping it with an aspidistra or ti leaf. Dendrobiums can be an inexpensive line flower for a vertical drop or cascade towards the floor.
Good luck with your event.

Just want to say that some excellent ideas have been offered in this thread - you guys are awesome!

The only thing I'll add is that 1 bu or 1/2 bu bear grass fountaining above the top of a pew (plus a small cluster of the flowers of your choice) adds a quick, low-priced tropical effect. If the air in the church is moved gently by a heater or AC, the soft motion of the bear grass evokes Island breezes.

One of the best ways I found to do pew markers of any type.....even if it is just bows and greens......Do the design in a flat slant handle bridal bouquet holder.....like a lomey holder.....and then stretch three heavy duty rubber bands around the pew end and simply slip the handle between the bands and the pew.....holds wonderfully and you can hide the bands most anyway you want.

I once made pew decos by bending ti leaves in half and then stapling two together to make a "chair" for a flower to "sit" in. I glued the flower in. I have used cymbidiums and fuji mums for this. Then I tied a ribbon around the middle and left long streamers to hang. They looked pretty and were pretty cost effective. I then took them and attached them to the bridal party chair backs at the reception. I try to re-use whatever I can to help "save" money.
I hope this helps!:headbang:

Tropical Wedding Decs

I had my tropical bride this weekend, she loved the designs I came up with. Have a look at my gallery and see if what I did could help you. I used low cost flowers like mini-gerbera, and worked in a lot of turquoise wire as accessorys. good Luck!
