Any opinions? I worry the tulips will pop open too soon and not hold up. I have a bride that saw a photo of one in a magazine (of course that looks great).

Thanks a bunch...of daisies!

YUCK!

Lots of labor.... we have glued the petals together to stabilize them from opening.

Someone help me here.... I seem to remember something about cutting under the neck of the tulip to keep it from opening......

I maybe way off-base with that last comment, but...... just thought I would toss that in.....

Joe...you're right about cutting a small slit just below the bloom. Never thought of gluing (double yuck). Just thinking they won't hold up in the bride's hot little hands.

floraloc

Haven't tried it but I was told to try floraloc on tulips for bouquets.

Another hint...drop a penny or a small piece of copper pipe in the container in the cooler...something about the copper...helps them last, I'm told.

Cheers!

Quality, fresh tulips should hold up with no worry at all. I would wire and tape about 2 inches below the head so they can be moved without braking the heads. Gather the heads up very closly and tightly, don't leave alot of stem exposed at the top (just under the head) as they will start to droop and fly away as they warm and open. The tighter the bouqet, the better they will stay in the propper place. Also, spray with crown and glory and cover. Put in cooler and keep out of the light to keep them from growing after the bouquet is made.

I have several tulip arrangements going out over the next several days. I have tried cutting a small slit under the bloom as suggested to keep them from opening, but for some reason it just doesn't seem to be working for me. HELP! What am I doing wrong? Is it a horizontal or vertical cut and do I slit it deep and right beneath the bloom on the stem or under the bloom itself??? So many questions....

Hi!
Cutting the stem vertical or pushing a pin through does not keep the tulip from opening rather it keeps the stem from bending toward the heavens.
The best advise I can give is buy quality tulips and cut them under cool water (keep the wrapper on), put them in the fridge to harden up. Pull them out of the fridge about thirty minutes before working with them to soften the stems so they are workable and not brittle. Get your bouquet done and really give it a good spraying of Hawiian Mist or Crowning glory and return to the fridge. Keep the bouquet cold for as long as you can before the wedding and it should be just fine.
Good luck!

I have done several bridal bouquets with tulips and never had a problem. They do tend to open a little but like the other poster stated, just tape the bouquet as far up as you can.

Tulips in wedding bouquets

I am new to the flower industry, and have no formal training, but I believe I have found a way to make tulip wedding bouquets...
I do the good old wire and taping. I wire and tape each bloom individually using the plastic-type tape (as opposed to the paper-type tape, which is darker). If always find you can't even tell the stems are taped since the color is the same as the stem.
The brides who got these bouquets said the blooms stayed beautiful and only the ones on the edges would start to open towards the end of their wedding day (if it was a hot day).
I charge a substantial amount for these bouquets because of the work going into it. The only times I don't wire and tape the stems is when I have a variety of flowers in the bouquet and I make sure to place the tuplis in the middle and use sturdier flowers around them.

I hope this helps!

I did a bouquet of tulips circled with roses. I didn't do anything special to the tulips for that bouquet. Will the bride maybe let you add roses? Here is a pic too.

Her wedding was2 years ago mother's day weekend of course! She did put it in water on the head table at the reception.
