Turner Flowers & Country Store is a retail florist and specialty gift shop located in downtown historic Ottawa, Kansas. While our family has been involved in the floral industry since 1936, we have only owned this particular shop since 1936. We have a Main Street location, and provide our customers with a warm, welcome, "homey" environment in which to shop. In addition to fresh flowers for all occasions, we offer permanent floral arrangements, foliage plants, WoodWick candles, plush animals, balloons, craft supplies, collegiate gifts, and a variety of wreaths and home decor items.
Our business is successful because we offer a great variety of products at reasonable prices, and we have excellent customer service. Customers comment that we bend over backwards, have great variety and great prices, and that our shop smells wonderful. We keep our overhead low and do as much as we can on our own, without hiring outside help. We work well together as a family and enjoy each other's company, allowing each individual's strengths to be utilized to the highest potential. All of this comes together in a wonderful combination that has allowed our business to grow and improve with each passing year.
Turner Flowers is truly and old-fashioned family business, made up of a mother-father-son team. Father (Lyle) and son (Shawn) have degrees in agriculture and floriculture, and they take care of the floral design needs of the shop. Mother (Kathy) had over 15 years of experience in banking and takes care of the accounting needs of the store.
All three of us work together to purchase and display products for sale in the shop, assist customers with special events, and promote our business to the community. We base our business model on fair prices and excellent customer service, and are able to call most people who come through our door by name. We encourage customers to be involved with the floral design process, choose the flowers that will be used and allow them the chance to see their flowers arranged, as opposed to many shops who keep their design counter in a back room away from the public. We also enjoy offering classes in floral arranging, wreath-making, etc. for the members of our community.
