I just viewed the video on UBloom and he did a lovely centerpiece using all different ribbons but cutting them and poking them in the oasis with a dow stick. Cut flowers were added as well.
Wouldn't the ribbon wick up the water and go limp??? He used brocades, sheer ribbon and maybe even some wired pieces.

Yeah, I'd be careful with that idea...either dip the wood picks in varnish, or wax, just to be safe. Learned the hard way. Also be sure that the ribbon does not touch the oasis or it will wick the water up as well.

personally I would consider that a "crafter creation" and yes the ribbon will wick if the oasis is wet. I haven't viewed it but if the ribbon wasn't waterproofed I can't imagine it not staining and wicking. Even "waterproof acetate" discolors when water wicks up it.

J ALWAYS just pokes the ribbon directly into the oasis with a chopstick, always.

I actually do, too, for Christmas centerpieces primarily. I use sheer wired, and the water does not start wicking for weeks. Now waterproof acetate wicks pretty quickly, and shows the preservative stains, too. Can't do it with any of the fabric or flocked ribbons, shows up right away.

I have just watched it and not sure if i would recreate it in fresh as i dont think it would sell as a centrepiece over here but as a silk design i think it would be fabulous... Even as a showstopper for the centre of a window display.

I love that site, just been watching one with submerged roses and a ball of roses on top.. So many great ideas for bridal shows etc.

That guy is great and actually really inspiring... just what i needed for this week i think :)

J is a ribbon freak....I don't think I know anyone who loves ribbon the way her does...
I can't stand ribbon....I just sort of roll my eyes at his ribbon lovin' ways...But to each his own! :)

Per Benjamin does lots of designs with ribbon but very slim sheer ribbon. It looks fabulous but i dont believe these designs are that sellable.

I considered doing this for one of my classes in the fall and weaving in some of my own creativity, but I think it's "too much ribbon".
It is different, but I'm sure many of those ribbons would wick and be dripping on the linen tablecloths.

I think the people signing up for my classes want "flowers" and are looking more for a Fresh flower centerpiece not a craft item. He has some nice ideas though.
