Wow...
One of my customer's son called her for a local source for a Valentine's Day order.

I had nothing to do with this other than filling the order but an interesting blurb in his "blog."

"FTD Sucks

I normally don't use this blog as a means of public banter against any other person or organization, but Saturday FTD really put the screws to me, so I feel obliged to return the favor.

As many of you know, I divorced last year and my daughters (who I speak with every night) live in Nashville with their mother. So, I thought it would be nice to send them roses for Valentine's Day. Being very busy lately, I figured that I'd just use FTD.COM instead of having to research to find a local florist in Nashville to deliver the bouquet today.

Here's a copy of the email I received on Friday, confirming my order:

Order Number: FNB505XXX

Order Date: Friday 02/11/2005
Delivery On: Monday 02/14/2005
Delivery To: Daddy's Girls
Residence
2213 XXXXXX RD
XXXXXXXXXX, TN 37XXX-XXXX
USA
615XXXXXX

Gift Message: From the first man that ever loved you. Happy
Valentine's Day. Love, Daddy.

12 Favrit Red/Wht w/Vase $48.99

Service Charges: $11.99

Subtotal $60.98

Total Charge: $60.98
Credit Card Type: VISA

Now, I get a call Saturday stating that the florist they sent the order to will not fulfill the order for that price - even though they are an FTD florist and I purchased the flowers from FTD.COM. What gives here? I felt like I was in the middle of a 'last minute shake down'. Since when is $60 not enough for a dozen MEDIUM stem (not even long stem) roses? How can local florists decide their own pricing when they join a network that advertises products at a set price?

Needless to say, I wasn't happy. Thankfully, my ever-resourceful mother came through and gave me the name and owner's name of a local florist in Nashville that took care of me and confirmed that FTD isn't worth the bother. Thank you mom and Garden Delights. I'm sure my little girls will be happy now. "

Pretty cool, huh?

Someone should educate that guy about ftd.CON and the independance of the local florists

I see this as....

another small victory......it's gonna be a long haul back, and the numbers of REAL FLORISTS that are gaining this knowledge is growing exponentially.

CHR--

Thanks for the nice words! The pleasure was all ours.

Great job to Steve for making all us local florists look good by coming through for Duncan.

Welcome RJD. The Bloomery site is very nice. Especially the "new" silk section. I'm assuming the pictures were done by themselves? Very well done.

I do have a website.. FTD cookie cutter... it is producing orders for me. But I am unhappy with it... I am working on a new website that portrays more of who we are. Doing myself because of cost... but I am unschooled in web matters. We'll see. Thanks for the link of the response... i had not seen that... well done!

I wonder

How much effort FTD put into getting someone to fill that order? It's not like Nashville is some small town with limited or non exhistent coverage.

Places the order on friday(evening?) and getting a call Saturday(some time befor Noon?) about not getting it filled.

How many times can this order be bounced arround in roughy 4 hr period . Be it electronically or live? Befor FTD has exausted all it's local options to get it filled.

How much effort does The Con. devote to processing these type problems?

How many Options are their in Nashville for FTD?

Are their alot of order bouncers in Nasville? Seems odd to me that someone wouldn't fill that order. But we could hope for a ship with alot of Sailors.

Do you get the same impression that this poster is "known" by others at this site?

Is it really possible that this incident bugged this guy so bad, that it kept him up at night. And couldn't wait to role out of Bed some time befor the Birds get up to make this post?

It all reads good but there is something that leaves some salt water lying on deck.

I just re-read that supposed order..says dozen roses r/w 48.99 + serv charge of $11.99 total $60.98 or whatever BUT how come there is no sales tax shown anywhere?? Is there a sales tax free state other than New Hampshire?

I *think* the item was 1 Dz roses in an FTD codied container which FTD offered both as direct-ship and 'florist delivered' (especially after it was too late to ship them.) The item showed an arrangement but the description said the roses would be sent wrapped with the vase - a DIY kit.

Imagine how disappointed senders would be to have their gifts delivered from a florist that way.

My understanding is that few florists chose to fill the orders for V-day at $49.95 including delivery. (Would you have?) The customer may have also selected a 'no substitution' option. I'm surprised FTD didn't meet the local florist's price, however.

They could have given the order to the florist for $60 and still been ahead by $12.

We could have come close as our roses at VD were $45/doz but del was extra and wouldn't make the $49.99 (depending on the area)
But we were one of the few who didn't raise our normal everyday price on roses for the holiday (thanks to early buying and arrival of gorgeous product)
We still have our "sampler" roses in the cooler and will take them out Friday to test their out of cooler time.
