Found this excellent page of lists and links for local florists to check on or submit our sites: http://www.locallytype.com/pages/submit.htm Most of the listings are free.
First, check to see if your site is currently listed. If not, then follow the link to add it. If the current information about your business is incomplete or incorrect, you can also update. (Unfortunately, updates can take weeks or months to appear.)
We recently found that one of the more important sites had us listed as a 'wedding chapel'. This type of miscategorization can harm your placement not only on the site where it appears, but even in general search since search engines use those categorizations to validate their data. It took a phone call to finally get it changed and to find out where the site got the data. We then followed up by contacting the data provider.
Get in the habit of monitoring your listings to watch for any changes. Believe it or not, some low-life slugs will alter data in hopes of decreasing your online reputation.
The latest nasty tactic we've seen was someone marking a positive review written by a customer as being 'unhelpful' (i.e. untrustworthy).
Would be great if there were software available to monitor all our listings but until then, we'll just make the rounds.
