Do you ever just feel like closing the doors and going home? I am having a real love/hate relationship with my business right now, I know that I can't be the only one who wants to have a pity party!
Somedays it is just a struggle, 1 person can just ruin your whole day with a nonsense complaint, I just have the hardest time letting go of the complaints, how do you deal with it? Some people are unbelievable, but at least they arent trying to return funeral flowers yet, so I guess it isn't as bad as it could be! But, when does your skin get thick enough to let it go???

Yes yes yes, to all of the above. Sometimes, walking away seems more like a wistful fantasy than failure .....

How to get through it - remember tomorrow is another day, a new opportunity for it all to turn around. Besides, you never know who may just walk in with a blank check. ;)

hang in there girl - it will change, it will always change!
:)

((last week I had a customer call because the 6-7 loose hard candies we tuck into the pineapple in our fruit basket were "stale". I tasted several [can't be too careful!] and they were fine. I did thank her for calling, and sent a note with a $10 walk in coupon, but geeze louise, really???? For 6 stinking candies?arrrrrgggghhhh!))

gone home

Allready home, rained its way into history books today, yesterday and quite possibly for the 4/5 days before that,so i am home and it feels goooooood.Sometimes its good to be in a different time zone.By the way skin like a rhino and some things still get under it.

Try to remember all the GOOD people you meet. The complainers definately ruin your day. But I try to remember the 10 people before that one that really appreciate having a full service florist in their area. For me EVERYTHING is personal. But I have a brother that's all business and I really admire the fact that he doesn't stress over what everyone else thinks or says. Take a deep breath and wait for the next opportunity to make someone smile!!

BOSS's Quote of the day!!

Spot On!

It's not always easy when a complaint arises, but if you weigh them against the compliments they are inevitable....shake it off, learn from it and ....

Carry on!

Yep, I agree with everything above. And I too tend to dwell on the nay sayers and Debbie downers that come in and try to make your life miserable. But, pretend those thoughts are emails in your head and just delete them before you open them up again! 1.Some people can not be satisfied, 2. Many people believe that complaining=free stuff.
3. We all know what you are going through and its a tough time to be in retail.
Here is what does'nt work-Drinking, smoking, eating an entire cake. I know because I've tried them all.

First thing is to listen to them and let them vent.
What can we do about it? is next
Try to react positively works wondrs, and generally you can correct the problem much easier if they have vented out...also remember that complaints are few and far between...hopefully.
We got 1 complaint at christmas, and it was another florist problem, we pride ourselves in gettng it right the first time as much as we can.
Sometimes you just get that ONE that pushes you over!
Breathe deep and have a great day.

Agree with all the above but every now and then, for some stress relief, sitting here reading, with a wittle bity adult beverage seems to work out.
Nothing in excess though !:ned

You have a beautiful store and I am sure you run it top notch. There will always be some a!!! that ruins your week. But remember it's YOUR store and you deliver good service to the other 100 people that came in and that one is just trying to throw his weight around. I know I always like the last word I have learned to just bite my tung and walk away.:thumbsup

My Recommendation......

The TexasFlowerGuy has seen this in person...someone walks in (generally in a weak emotional state) and hits you right below the belt. Hurts don't it? Hurts bad....worse than a tooth ache.

My recommendation is the next time someone gives you a compliment (which happens 100 times more often) that you try and enjoy that compliment as much as you let the complaint hurt you.

If this little equation works out, you'll still have the sting from the complaints....but you'll gain 100 X more from the compliments....and that is what you deserve.

All the best!

Concentrate On The Positive Instead

I just try to remember all the customers I have that are so happy. It is absolutely inevitable that you will get these kind of "people" (the ones that cannot live life unless they are making someone else miserable). She/He probably just came from some other business after blessing them with their presence too.

I dont think there is anyone that is not bothered by this situation....it's all about redirecting your thoughts to the stuff that matters.:flowerfac
