After dealing with and finally receiving our delayed flower shipment yesterday, an employee opened our large walk-in cooler and was met by a blast of heat. The electrician that we finally located who would make Sunday calls said that the main breaker had gone bad. He will be back today to replace it. BTW, that breaker (not sure that is the exact term) also took out the heat in the building. It's around 20F here this morning.

Since sleep was reluctant anyway, I got up to go to the shop early & set up some space heaters (remember that we have tenants in the building who must be kept happy) and take care of some details. First, as always, FlowerChat had to be visited. There were all of those wonderful jokes from Bloomz and Clay. What a blessing! Thanks Guys! :iwuvyou:

Oh Connie - that just stinks! Seems to always be at the busiest times, doesn't it? I hope all gets fixed up today, and your tenants know how lucky they are to have a conscientious landlord!

Must be in the air - we got a call from our alarm company as we were leaving to come to the shop at 5:58 this morning - break in/motion in the store. Thankfully it was a false alarm - terrible wind here last night, but we think an errant balloon near the motion sensor was the culprit.

hang in there!

Ms. Connie, Just sorry to hear all going sour. You know I'm only a call away!!
Best to you.

Connie...was it your FlowerBuyer shipment??

After 30 years of holidays, we've succumbed to the fact that something will go wrong at a holiday. We always hope it's something small and early in the week. We get through it, but really...IS THERE ANYONE THAT WORKS HARDER THAN A FLORIST?
I truly hope this is you biggest and worst hurdle of the week!

Well, things got a tad bit worse. When I plugged in the second space heater this morning, the lights in part of the shop dimmed, and alarms began going off in the machine room. The tenants' computers went down, and the lights went out in their offices. The electrician came and made the repairs, so we have lights, can use our computers, and the heat is on. The cooler, however, is not cooling, so now we are awaiting a refrigeration repairman.

For a while, I was bemoaning the fact that "there goes our Valentine profit," but now I'm just extremely grateful to have the funds that VD is providing so that we can get these repairs done immediately.

And I'm trying very hard not to think, "What next," for fear that there will be a "next." LOL

Mikey, yes, it was our flowers from Flower Buyer, the large shipment. Oh, how I do miss Sonia!!

If it's 20 degrees outside can't you pop the doors open just a little and keep it cold?

We had a display cooler go bad this morning, although it's 75 degrees so we had to get it fixed asap. I guess the free flowers we occasionally send to the reefer repair guy finally pay off.

I've learned you never tempt fate by saying what else can happen because it always does. Christmas '06, we walked into the shop and discovered the display cooler had malfunctioned, over heated and we lost an entire cooler full of flowers. Of course it was a Monday evening when it happened - we had restocked from the weekend and it was full. Called the repair man, who did come in the late afternoon and puttered around as dollar signs floated out our door. He announced he fixed it - we came in the next day only to find this time the cooler had frozen all the flowers. By the time the repair man returned to the shop - the wall behind the cooler had caught on fire, a light fixture shorted out and caught the ceiling on fire, which shorted out 2 computer and our delivery person called in sick for the 7 time in 5 weeks - he got fired. It seemed like a trend - we went with it.

I'm sorry that things are rough - and you're right to count your blessings. I wish you well. Just think, by Saturday - all this will be a memory. Have some hot chocolate with some peppermint schnapps. It may help!

Swore I wouldn't pop in any more til after but.......

Connie, hope you're back to normal early tomorrow. Faith !

We know what it's like ! Among some other WS related travesties, we
ran out of reds today and two suppliers dropped the ball on us until the 13th.
( Surprised Cathy didn't hear me going off in Anaheim )
Sent back over 5,000 roses thus far, not to mention several other sub standard products. Feel like we're playin' kiddie games with the suppliers.
Bitter cold so running a ton of electric heat in all of our storage to back up the diesel units.
( 4 areas )
Nervous about the wind and wind chill, and a possible overload, so sleepless between 2 and 7 am.
Havin a ducky time, but toughin it out as best we can.

Good luck, it'll all hopefully work out.

Connie,

My heart goes out to you, especially after you and I just chatted via e-mail about how lovely your website is.

Our walkin also seems to have a mind of its own at holidays. We found a small freon pin hole leak in the supply line outside the cooler two days ago, it had managed to drip into the cooler. Not wanting to cause more problems just taped up the hole and gave it a big shot of freon. Now we are watching closely for freeze ups.

My problems seem small in comparison to some of yours. God Bless you all, may HE give you strength to endure all that comes.

Prayers and good thoughts coming your way from Texas!!!

PS -:kuddle: By the way this is my first post since joining. A big hello to all you dear hard working people.

The refrigeration repair man discovered that the compre$$or had locked down. The new one will be in$talled Wedne$day or Thur$day. Big bucks. And no use of the cooler this holiday.

We had already rented a refer trailer, so we're in good shape that way. We also have a garage/storage area which runs the width of our building, and it's unheated, so that has been put to use as a spill over area. Part of the problem with that is that while it's in the 20s at night here right now, the daytime temp is close to 70F.

Two employees out yesterday, one by previous arrangement & the other by flu. Short-handed and now short of roses. I've called in my reserves (sisters & niece), and I'm running on reserve energy and faith now.

But we wouldn't really believe that it was Valentine's Day without drama, would we????

Thank you, My Dear Flower Chat Friends, for you sympathy, understanding, good thoughts, and prayers. As always, God provides........on every level. I am therefore extremely grateful that He has provided you for me. God bless you.

Ms. Connie, I'm still a phone call away, That is in the evening hours tho.
Girl friend you will find yourself to be one of the strongest lady friends I know.
The drama will pass, looks as if your rolling with the waves, stay on that float
tho. I only have a pair of swimes but I'll look around for that life jacket for ya!
Hope today is a better one for all of us. Lots of good thoughts your way,
Just a call away- Ellen:walking:

Connie,
You show great faith and determination...and that will pull you through. Call it drama or dumb luck...the holidays bring out the best (read WORSE) in the flower shops.
Send you happy thoughts for a great day!

It happens and I think it's happened to all of us. In the last fourteen months, we've had a major break-in where all our computers were stolen, our front window broken on two separate occasions, our store furnace broke and had to be rebuilt, we had to refurnish a high-profile customer's table because of staining, the transmission went on the shop van on Dec. 21st... it never seems to end.

All you can do is ride it out and hope that things settle down.
Audra

Thanks again Folks!
