Anybody got any ideas for using vegatables and flowers.Doing a Gentlemans cooking classic ...my husband is being honored there...so I really need to show out.Im doing several arrangements but that will have to reflect him...because of his food...he's cooking one of his famous red snapper dishes.Boy...Don't I feel the pressure. He cooks alot of italian ....seafood...New Orleans Style food.Lots of onions ,bell peppers,parsley,crab,crawfish...etc.Didn't know I had to do it till yesterday!! I appreciate everyone.

I don't know if these will help, but they are from a design segment I did where I used things (primarily)from the farmers market. You might be able to use 1 as a starting point?!?!

well, first of all you want to be careful using anything from your regular wholesaler.

Those flowers aren't USDA.

However you should be able to find edible flowers at a whole foods type store.

I know you can eat tulips, roses, pansies, chive flowers, ( i like to put chive flowers in salads) Nasturshims, saffron comes from crocus. can't think of anything else.

Thanks

I sure do appreciate everything....I might be yelping tomorrow for some technique ideas ..thank you...

Sounds like fun. Just go to the market and look at the vegetables as you would flowers. Color, shape, texture, form,....

You could probably throw some fruit in there as well.

I made a casket spray several months ago, all veggies. I used the entire bunch of radish and also carrots with raffia tied around them. Cucumbers, purple onion, turnips, kale, curly leaf lettuce, red and yellow peppers, the really funky looking squash, and whole corn with the shucks pulled back to expose the fresh corn.

The family loved it. We are a big farming community so we get a lot of request for veggies and watermelons.(Watermelon capitol of the world)

Just go to the grocery store and look for the unsual, it will turn out great.

Ya'll Are The Greatest!

I'll Be Sure And Take Pictures And Show Everyone What We All Created.thanks!

For my nephews wedding we did a vase with vegetables (radishes, carrots, etc. ) layered in a vase. We cut them up so we had the red, orange and green colours on top of each other. Then we did a lomey dish on the top of the vase and did a funky arrangement. The cool thing about it was that the vegetables were still fresh (they were submerged in the water) that my sister in law made soup after the wedding!!!! Gudrun
