One of our local funeral directors presold funerals, and then stole the money. Here is a quote from the local paper:

Last week Peters and his funeral home were stripped of their licenses by the Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors (BEFD) after the board found "clear evidence that Mr. Peters ... filed a false death certificate, filed false insurance documents and received moneys for funerals that had not been performed because the individuals were still alive."

Victim's of crime, are calling local florists to offer services or discounts. What do you think is a fair and reasonable offer?

Thanks in advance.

If it were me, in our town, I would probably offer a complementary casketcover, of a modest very size - say $100-$150, or a credit of a similar amount toward the casket cover they would choose. I don't think you would need to discount anything else - isn't the casket piece the only piece typically sold in a pre-paid funeral package?

It will surely help someone in need, and boost your shop's image in a smaller community. Your out of pocket cost would be nominal, but the goodwill generated could be worth much more.

This reminds me of the FD (I can't remember where) who got paid to bury the bodies and never did!(had them all over the place) At least he waited till the people were dead before he stole from them! The FD in this case was so greedy he couldn't wait!
What a mess!
I would do as much as you can to console the families but am not sure that I would give them flowers because they were victims of the FD. Maybe a healthy discount would be in order?

thanks

very good ideas, thanks.

I am supposed to get a letter on Monday, from victims of crime, and reply thereafter, so any input will be greatly appreciated.

That was right here in Lincoln City, Oregon. He had them stacked like cord wood in his garage - the freak.

I think he went to prison. At least I sure hope so.

We had one of those here on the East Coast too, PA or western NJ I think. Buried folks in his yard, all over the place. People like that ....

And there was one in Georgia who was supposed to be cremating the bodies.
