We're in the process of adding a user controlled 'virtual tour' of our shop' (main sales area). It's available in both Flash and Java:
http://www.avantegardens.com/AvanteGardens_flash.html
http://www.avantegardens.com/Tour/avanteGardens_java.html

Two questions:
1) Do you think this tour will get viewed (i.e. folks waiting for the tour to load?)
2) From our home page, would you link to an intermediate page and give users a choice between the two formats or link straight to the flash version from our home page with a secondary link to the Java version?

Suggestions appreciated. :)

Wow. . .

Did I say WOW!

It was easily worth the download wait.

I have always been impressed by the virtual tour technology.

I can even zoom in and read price tags. (just kidding). . .

That is pretty cool....even cooler after some adult beverages. :)

How do you see this virtual tour augmenting sales?

thanks

Joe

Cathy,

Your shop is oooh la la...GORGEOUS! It didn't take any time for me to download the virtual tour. I love virtual tours...never thought about putting one on our website. Every year we select a home to rent in the Outer Banks NC and the selection is always based on the virtual tours. I love this idea!

Love it! I am a fan of the tours, and if I am interested *enough* I will wait to look. I don't know if it will truly convert people to buying, but I think it would be something they would like to see regardless.

At first I thought a split option would be best, but I think more people have flash than Java? So heading straight to the majority, with the Java option clearly visible might be fine.

gorgeous shop - something to aspire to! I love the look of your cooler windows, how they are part of the room, not a piece of equipment in the room.

What was the process to have that 360 view made? I envision thousands of photos ...

I like it a lot too - the flash worked better for me - the java one the color didn't load well in time and was filling in while rotating - but I wonder like Tracy does - yu can even turn the shop upside down and view the ceiling - so how the heck do you shoot this?

It really adds to the expansive look of your shop as well.

Nice.

Even if people don't see it, the fact that it's available reinforces your localness.

I called Janis over to see it - she's been dying to see your shop. And ... loved it, of course!!

It was designed for customers to walk in and help themselves. The funny thing is, more male customers go in & select their own flowers. :dunno:

The photographer has a camera with a super-duper convex lense. He positions it on a tripod and shoots four shots from that pivot point. He then stands in the same position and shoots the ceiling & floor. The 6 images are 'stitched together' with software. He used Photoshop to blend the carpet & ceiling areas (and remove his feet from the down shot.)

It really adds to the expansive look of your shop as well.
Thanks. The photographer tells me we can go back in and add html links so when a viewer mouses over the cooler, they can click and go to flower pages or mouse over the plant area and land in the plant section.

Now thats a flower studio !!! super gorgeous, I love it!!!!!! MY DREAM STORE:)
Make me an offer and all this can be yours. :>

Just remembering what jim said last week...
Errr..... ummmmm... I used to have a fine memory. Was it something printable here?

We did something similar, but rather than a full shot you click on the arrows for a peak of the store in certain areas. The site is just new and needs some work, but the effect we hoped would let people experience what the inside of our store is like and therefore reinforce the fact that there is actually a real florist!

Missy - Your site has a wonderful flavor. :) I like how the rendering areas open to real shots of the shop.

How's the flash shopping cart working for you? I had a bit of a challenge figuring how to navigate it (but it may still be partially under construction.)

The photos of your own designs look really appealing.

Your shop is lovely, and it's a very cool idea. Sorry I don't know enough to recommend one over the other. It's great though!

Very nice shop, Cathy! And love the tour. I think it will help potential customers feel comfortable and confident that their shopping experience.

Rock on..................

Psssst, Bloomz, you can walk on the ceiling! :bloomz:

Cathy, is that a coloured/dyed concrete floor?

Yes. Painted concrete in the heavy traffic areas and cooler floor.

The base paint is concrete stain (like they use for tennis courts) and the 'marbling' was just plain old latex applied with sponges, feathers, etc... Three (or four?) coats of Verithane were applied on top. We periodically touch up but it's worn well. (The original application was done almost 14 years ago.)

If you have a wide angle lens and want to try to make your own image, google for "autostitch". It's a free tool. Hugin is also free (http://hugin.sourceforge.net/).
