I could'nt believe it, first time any one has been in my shop in well over a year, the old FBC only lasted a couple of months. I did see him once, nothing since. Today the FBC for this area finally made an appearance. It kind of went like this. She walks in the door, says hi, hands me her card. Asks if there are any concerns with FTD I said well for starters I would like to object to the constant increase in fees, she said that there have not been any in a long time, I asked her where she has been considering the increase in Merc fees, the increase in membership fees, the new phone in order fee and her response was, well everything goes up. Next issue was the Quality Assurance fee. She did not even want to talk about that. I pressed the issue, she became annoyed and finally said, well I really don't know much about that, it's not my area. She did not look around my shop, she did not ask about any specifics about my business (funny that the FBC stands for field business consultant) nothing, the total visit lasted maybe 10 minutes. She did try to show me the FTD greeting card line and talk about the flowers after hours program and I was honest and told her that I was having a hard time justifying being an FTD member based on the business that I am doing with them, so I was not interested in doing anything that was going to cost me more money. That pretty well ended the visit.

Having been in a similar position to the FBC in a prior career I can honestly say that if this is the typical visit, FTD could do a much better job of spending their money.

Amen!

Quality field people are VERY hard to find... and FTD rarely seems to make much of an effort.

OUCH.....

when you DO have a fine FBC like I have, it makes ALL the difference in the world, in your perception of ANY company!!
So you can just IMAGINE the HUGE choice I had to make with great FBC's from BOTH FTD and TF calling on MY area!!
Still though Jim....your "experience" sure leaves much to be desired....
Mike

Mikey, what's a FBC?:)
PS I'm only asking because I cannot remember..........

Mike ... when did FTD get a good rep in this area??

Hey Rock, Carolyn is going to be here in October, first visit since that time we went to that video show 5-6 years back.

I will say this with Mikey, it seems to me that Caroline our FBC for the north is doing a good shop for us the FTD members. SHe is polite, not scare to answer direct questions and is willing to get you the answers you need. SHe is a super lady, very interactive with members and you can meet her personally at the Ontario Conference in Picton.

"Field Business Consultant"...FBC...

Tim Casson does a marvellous job for FTD in our area, and as many of you know, Sue Conway, with TF, has enough experience in this industry to even make ME a little jealous!!
They both are a credit to their respective organizations and are both friends!
We met Caroline at our little florists only get together, for the first time, and she too, appears to have all the makings of a wonderful representative for FTD on the northern front
If LUC likes her, then all is well....
Mike:)

your field rep

That's exactly why I started my business - because no one is going out and HELPING the florist to prosper - training the staff, talking about a marketing plan, making suggestions on display etc!

regards,

Tim

Caroline is a definite sweetheart ... but she's greener than Blue Oyster gets when thinking about MAS.

I say give her a couple years, let her experience the seasonal swings, a few policy changes from HQ, some customer backlash ... let her get acquainted with the real industry, not just the FBC training programs FTD put her through.

THEN she'll either be an asset to our industry like Sue is, or another casualty like so many nameless others.
