Most of you probably already know this, but_____I have been in this business for 35 yrs & just heard about it. Add a capful of vodka to the water for gerberas & tulips to make the stems stiffer. Haven't had any tulips since & learned of this but did on gerbs this week & was really impressed. REally made them stand up. Never too old to learn a new trick. This same person said you can add lemon lime soda to make tight flowers open sooner, haven't tried this yet.

I would be very careful about using "home remedies". Some may be good and some may not.

My personal opinion is that some of the chemical companies have already experimented and tested a lot of these and either added or done away with certain elements. So, I pretty much stick to the accredited care and handling guides on the market.

I usually call one of the horticultural scientists available to us when wanting information about things like vodka or lemon juice, etc.

I think some of this has been posted before, but, not sure where to look it up.

I've long used white vinegar with the same result. It eliminates the need to look longingly at the vodka bottle during stressful days. ;)
