Wow Dee Dee, that is one for the scrap book. That is great!! Any stories to go with the pic?

oh man I wish I had the pics of this old shop.
We have been around since 1885.

But after the first of the year Schluter Floral will cease to exist.
Kinda sad to me, but that's how it is.

Gee thanks!

If you look really carefully you can see that it says Carey the Florist on the sign. That's my shop! yes we are still around. As far as I know we have had 3 name changes (and I don't know the order) Carey the Florist, Carey Flowers, and now Carey's Flowers Inc. I honestly think each genration changed the name a little.

As I understand it we are older than 100 years old but can only claim 96 years because that is when the local records picked us up. Something about being considered flower farmers b4 being considered a flower shop.

I have some great old pic's if people care to see them I just wasn't sure if, well, people would think this sort of thing was booooooring.

We are still in that building only we added a ton on and ripped a ton of greenhouses down.

That is my house in the background it looks diferent now too but looks closer to the original than the store does.

Here's a question is this story (with all the added do da's) blog worthy??

Dee why dont you post some pics of now and some pics of then, it would be great to see how it evolved.

re the blog, i still am not sure what a blog is supposed to be so not sure but if it means would it be interesting to read then yes defo.

Perfecto for a blog....especially then and now shots!

YES DEE!!! PLEASE post!! I am a huge lover of historic houses. I WOULD love to see then and now pics. A blog would be great as your shop definitely has a rich history to tell...it has seen many different times through the years and has survived through it all! I for one would love to read about that.

Too cool!
I wanna see "now" pics too. :)
My house is over 100 years old but there are no pics that I know of. I keep meaning to go to the Museum here and try to look it up.

I love old buildings! My dream is to buy a building like my house and make it into a flower shop.

Shannon,

What's happening to Schluter Floral, and what does that mean for YOUR future?

Long story short.....

We bought our biggest competetion... If ya can beat'em.....

They have a better rep, no matter how much we try to re establish a good rep, it has been an uphill battle trying to fix the bad rep the old store had. They just didn't give a poo, the old owner and crew I mean , so sad.

So the new bought store and this store will become one store at the first of the year. The new store will move in with us, but we will take their name. It's like an arranged marriage I supose!!

2 weeks ago we met the crew at the new store, they all seem nice and I think we will all get along well.

I will continue to be the manager and Amy said she will be more involved in the day to day stuff, you know in the design room more, in the trenches with us grunts!!! So I'm not so overwhelmed. So that's great. BTW, she didn't call us grunts, that's my attempt at humor.

Any hoo, I've been complaining that we needed more business, well, I got it now Jack!! That'll learn ya!

I'm actually very excited about all the possibilities. Just REALLY bummed about the whole Schluter Floral name no longer existing.

I sort of feel like a failure because with all my contest wins and everything we, and I mean the entire staff, have done to combat a bad rep, it was just taking too long to see the results Amy wanted, and me as well.

You guys have seen the store and my work, it's good. But some people are "coke" people and some people are "pepsi" people so to speak, and nothing can sway that.
So by combining stores we are forcing it! HA!!!

So like I said, if ya can't beat 'em.

Shannon,

Sounds like you'll be busier than ever before, and more responsibility! I wish you much success, and a raise!
