We are considering building a wedding website separate from our current shop site. Our current shop site is outdated and the company that built it is really struggling so therefore we can hardly get any customer service to keep it maintained. Unfortunately we have over two years left on a contract and would have to pay through the nose to buy out. Thats why I just want to start a second site. Any opinions on this idea? Also, should I try to build the site myself even though I have no real experience with this sort of thing or just hire a professional? All opinions appreciated.

Definitely, absolutely, without question hire a pro - there are several floral-specific options to evaluate. Would you advise a bride to DIY her wedding flowers? Your website will create the impression of your shop in the customer's mind.

If you want help with the contract issues with the other company, please feel free to call me next week at 800-314-8895 and I'll see if we can help you out.

Seems to me that if you have a contract and it includes updates and service, if they are not able to do that..would you be able to get out of it without buying your way out? If they are not performing, maybe they should buy themselves out to avoid a problem...just a thought...

I would take Ryans' advise and hire a Pro.

You can do it yourself, but you have to have some understanding of where to start. It is a long detailed process, and a professional can get it up and going faster and sometimes nicer. I say the nicer part only because when you do your own you worry over every tiny detail, where others might not and let little errors get though.

There are many of us on the board that know how to do their own, but time is money.

I say the more sites the better. I just finished two more today, covering all my bases and the little tiny towns we deliver to by name. Don't anyone get excited, I'm not DOGing, the towns are our delivery area and no one else wants them.

Good luck!

If the site is not being maintained as specified by your 'contract' you should be able to be released and then start again with a pro that is florist savy. Their's all the help you need here and the advice I have found to be brilliant. For spending a little bit more you could have a full e-commerce site that will be maintained. I update my own but the experts did the initial bit.
Good Luck I think you should be ale to get out of this situation.
