Hi there,
I'm finally getting around to building a website for myself and would like some feedback before I get too far with it.
I'm using a new web building beta program called wix. I have not used Flash animations since about 2002 so this is my first time trying that feature out again. For now, I'm using premade options but will be getting into building my own again soon.

I've added only two small ones and need to find out how they work in user browsers.

So, if you wouldn't mind, could you please open the above link and let me know:
1. Did it load OK? (I will be upgrading to a premium site which will speed it up).
2. Do the animations look/display alright?

I'm trying to combine my print/journalism background with graphics/web design, so if there's anything any one can suggest on other avenues I should consider that I haven't mentioned, please let me know. Remember, this is just the first page of the site...more to come and lots of tweaking to do!

I appreciate your feedback. PM me if you like.

Dorothy :)

loaded fine - I see twinkle stars & a flippy page.
good luck!

I just saw a page describing the behind the scenes services. I did see your name and shop name at the upper right hand corner. I did not see stars or a flippy page.

Thanks Aileen. What browser are you using and are you on a mac or pc? Also, do you see any graphics?

So, no sparkly things in the Behind the Scene Solutions name and, if you see a "sticky" note, the corner doesn't flip up?

forgot to mention I'm usint IE ....9 I think, but IE nonetheless.

Ok DUH....I was thinking I should be looking for flowers or something like a shops website. I do see some sparkly things around the Behind the Scenes Solutions. I do see a post it that has a corner flipping upwards. Sorry about that!

In the Website Development forum, there is a topic of discussion - Cool Flower Shop websites..........peruse some of those for some great ideas and tips about what to do and not to do.

Thanks Rick. I'll definitely look at that, especially when designing/redoing flowershop sites. Right now, I'm building a site for myself and wanted to check out how the animation works on others' computers.

Oh, you mean like not designing sites in Flash? ;)

Update: Clarifying -> Not using ALL flash. Flash objects are ok, as long as there is no essential info within the flash file.

Good point to always keep in mind.
Flash can certainly be overused and useless, but it can also add something different, depending on your site. E-commerce, not so much but I do see a place for flash in blog sites...but that might be just me.

I am kind of ambivalent about Flash - Maybe it is just my mindset, but Flash and other techy bits seem to be eye-catching........and at least in my mind, seem to be good for attracting the web-savvy Gen-Y'er.

Opinions, Comments?

Too much text and too busy.

I checked out wix a long time ago and can't remember if they manipulate the domain so you can use your own website address, but if they don't, that URL is way too long.

Also, I think that if you are establishing credibility as designer, you should use your own website and nix the clip art.

I hope you take this well, I don't mean to be harsh. I'm only trying to help. :)

Thanks Dazeal. I didn't take your comments wrong. I'm exploring at the moment and wanted to know if the flash pieces display properly. I do plan on using all my own, hand drawn "clipart" in the real website. And, yes, you can have your own domain address now with wix. I'm practising in the free version right now.

Also, I don't plan on doing what Ryan's company does, which is build custom websites from scratch. I'm hoping to help people that already have sites and want to make them better. Such as fixing their old logos, adding graphic elements, redesigning within their existing templates, etc....in other words, working Behind the Scene. :)
