We don't do a lot of weddings, but over the years we've done our share. We're not fancy and usually the weddings are on the smaller side with nothing being too elaborate. Rarely do the weddings we do have reception flowers other than a few times they have wanted simple (cheap) vase arrangements or bubble ball arrangements and that's about it.

Here's my problem. (This is a referral from a friend of ours' daughter.) She is having 25 round (10 seat) tables with centerpieces and 10 of them are to be on the tall pedestal. How in the world do you do that so they don't fall over? Is that what the tall heavy bottomed eiffel tower vases are for? I know they make those things called lollipops that set into the top vase opening and are made with floral foam for arrangements. The ones I saw are very tiny, do they make larger ones?

Also, she wants rhinestones on the stephanotis. How do you do that?

I came here first to save time as I know many of you know these answers right off the bat. I will research the rest that I can't find answers to here.

Is (Sterling) lavender roses always the same color no matter what grower they are from? She mentioned Sterling and we alwasy get Bluebird. I can wait until I get a piece of the lavender dress to see which looks best with it. Any input on lavender roses?

The flowers will be fun and quite easy, but I am concerned about the tall arrangements the most.
Thanks so much!

We've done them in the eiffel towers when the customer wouldn't accept another option. One option is to put a straight handled bouquet holder down the throat of the vase. We've also done them using the Oasis igloos. To keep the vases bottom heavy, use decorative sand or stones in them.

Bouquet Gems has a few rhinestone options available for stephanotis. Another option is hand gluing larger rhinestones onto those stephanotis stems. (sorry, can't think of the term for them).

I'm always cautious with lavender, now not so much. J posted a neat idea on his show about color matching, he uses Design Master Color Spray - it's not opaque like the old stuff and we've used it to get colors right here.

Hope that helps.

Use a tall thin vase with a heavy base. You won't have any problems. If you are still concerned add some glass balls.

Stephanotis, rhinestones.... if rhinestones are wired run the wire through the throat of the steph then tape off.

Sterling is a lavender rose, also look for Cool Water ( i think that is the name)

I tend to over engineer...but I use florist clay to secure the glass towers to a mirror base. For the flowers...I have used a large plastic candle holder, and trimmed some of the plastic, so I could shish kabob a regular piece of OASIS on it; then secure the plastic holder to the glass tower with clay. The clay cannot be wet, or it will not hold.

For the steph, you can use a steph stem holder.

I use the tower vases quite often and fill them with clear glass marbles in order to add some weight then use cling to adhere them to a glass mirror for added stability. You can use the straight handled bouquet holder or I have taken the clear plates and made a stem with a pvc adapter in order to hold larger arrangments. I know that there are rhinestone pins that you can use for the stephanotis along with a stephanotis stem.

I have also used fibre optics in these vases. Looks very cool at night. :)

if you use the steph stems you can just poke the wired rinestone (or get the pins) into the steph stem. Just cut the pin stem shorter and dab with adhesive before insertion.

as for eifel towers we've used the staight handle boc holders.

Hi Lady biker,
Have you thought about using very tall cylinder vases?
They work great with colored stones, california crystals, marbles etc.
You then would make your arrangements in lomey dishes and just sit them on top! You could rent the vases (for what you paid for them) then someone could take the arrangement home as a favor. Then you will have the vases for the next big affair to rent again! (you will probably get alot of wedding work from this job!) because...:yourock:

Another option are tall glass pilsner vases. They work in the same way as above. Or you could make the arrangement in an oasis sphere atop the pilsner.
As for lavender roses I love "Cool Water".
Good luck!

I'm all ears folks! I so appreciate all your input. The wheels are sure spinnin' in my poor old head now. I guess that's a good sign of life up there, huh? LOL

I've been looking on the Internet for eiffel tower vases to get an idea of the price so I can give this girl a proper estimate. I have a few questions for you experienced with these vases.

1) Is 24" a satisfactory heighth? Is the 28" a better heighth?

2) I see the price varies greatly, how much do you pay on average for the 24" and 28"?

3) Do you generallyt go with clear or frosted?

4) I also see warnings about the econo version - any comments on that?

5) And anything else you think is pertinent to these vases.

Thanks so much for you answers.

If by Eifel tower vases, you mean those vases with a heavy-four balled based, go taller. Go 30".

YOu need to have them tall enough so the guests can see the other guests on the opposite side of table.

Econo versions? By the heaviest glass you can.

clear vases are prettier.

Buy them and charge your customer cost plus mark-up of 2x. That way you have covered your cost and made money on them. YOu never know when you will use them again so make sure you make money the first time with them.

Joe

We used the 30" ones with straight handled bokay holders - used gold pearl strands glued on bokay holders.....down the vase (the illusion of dripping gold inside the vase). They were plenty heavy enough to hold over a 34-36" ball of "fluff"....baby's breath, dendros, Star of Bethleham and greened with variegated pitt for a "topiary" look. Worked great, only problem is I can't tell you what I paid because a good friend gave me all 36 of them! I priced vase at $10 each........don't have a clue as to actual cost. duh!!

cymbidium orchids

I too am just experiencing new ideas. a bride came in wanting a show bouquet if just cymbidium ochids. I have been thinking should I just do a wired bouguet or should I wire them and put it in a holder has anyone got an opinion on it interested in knowing if anyone has tried both

I did something similar two weeks ago but with Phalaenopsis. I wired each head and put them into holder. Probably on a smaller scale but theres a picture of the bouquet in the members gallery.

I've done them both ways Florence. I like using the bouquet holder best. The last one I did I used an Elegant bouquet holder and used all Green cymbidiums. It was lovely. If the stems are long enough they'll go easily into the oasis. To lengthen them I put a moist cotton ball on the stem wire and tape it then attach it to a Cowee pick and insert that into the oasis. Works like a charm. :)

cymbidium bouquet

so you dont bother wiring it in a holder then. That will save time then wont it thanks very much for all your help. I tend to shy away from those kind of bouquets as I feel I will get myself into alot of trouble with them. the phalaenopsis orchid looks even worst, Ive seen them made in a trailing bouquet how hard does that look. what wire do you use for that ( asuming you have to wire them)

the rhinestones you can just glue in with the oasis glue

Be careful with sterling roses. Most people who ask for sterling roses want the smell of a lavender rose. If smell is not an issue Ocean Song roses are the closest match for color. Also true sterlings are the only ones with that smell and are very very hard to get. make sure you have a good trustworthy supplier if you need to get them specifically.
