I have a young couple who want tulle as bows and draped from seat to seat from front to back on the middle aisle. I called our local material store and got a price of $1.29 yard tulle (72 inches wide). I am thinking we could cut the 72" in half and it would still be full enough. What do you think - those of you who have experience with this stuff?

Do any of you have any wholesale resource out there that is cheaper than $1.29 yd. but of course there would be shipping charges.

Any wise input from experienced wedding decorators or tulle handlers?

Thanks much!!! :scooter: Varoom....varoom.............

Check with some of your suppliers ....

I bought some by the bolt a few years ago from one of our suppliers ... they were Canadian .... but it seems to me that it was very inexpensive because I sold it for around $1.80 yard.

A number of our local wholesalers carry tulle by the bolt so you might ask them. I wouldn't recommend splitting the tulle.

For swagging, you'll need roughly 1.5 X the distance of the aisle per side. Depending on the size of the bows, you'll need 3 yards or so each if they cascade down the pews. You'll only need to place a bow every 2nd or 3rd pew.

Tulle & Isles

Ditto on the measurements that Cathy gave you in the above post.

We can usually buy tulle by the bold thru a Joanne Fabrics or sometimes a Michaels craft store locally. Usually runs about a $1./yd -- bolts are quite large.

Just a word of advise, though. While the effect of swagging off the entire center isle is beautiful, it is a PAIN in the butt for all the guests that must be seated. Guests must be escorted down a side isle, and then cross over the length of the pew to get to the center isle seat where they wanted to be! Older people will complain. Grandma/grandpa will be upset. Just make the pride aware.

An alternative to swagging off the entire isle is to just swag off the part where the immediate family is to sit, and then use tulle bows only (every 2 or 3 rows apart) from that point on back. At the point where the ushers seat the Grandmas, & Moms, they can actually CUT the tulle at the pew they are to enter when they arrive at that pew.

I know, fairytales are beautiful......We however, must deal with the practical every day!

Good luck,

If you do a lot of weddings, you can purchase a bolt of sheer organza that is 120 wide..ivory or white and cut it according to CHR recomendations..we stitched our aisle runs together, one for each side ...folded it lenghtwise and made it somewhat "tubular". These tubes can be stored in a long roses box...folded back and forth and delivered to the site...we knot each end and the draping is a wiz! They can be placed back into the box at breakdown, placed in storage and ready for the next event....it is more costly initially but in the long run, it is a life saver. I paid 250 for my bolt ( 60 yards I think) and it does the aisle and enough left over to cover 8 foot columns (2), 6 foot columns (3) and 4 four foots with a drape across the top of the columns. Some of the pieces we cut for the columns are long enough to use for our chuppah as well and I still have at least 1/3 of the bolt left. It is washable....of course to refold it needs a very long house....tulle to me is not as elegant, is hard to reuse, and can sometimes look "homemade"....I think a long time ago I posted a lavender wedding photo that shows the ceremony room where we used part of our organza. We have done approximately 100 weddings with the same organza and it still looks great, has no wrinkles and stores really well...I have some good sources in Miami that will ship direct to you if you need.

Thank you for bringing this up - it's something I always mention when brides want to do the swag. I'm not trying to discourage, just make sure they understand the logistics of the look. I love the romantic look of the aisle swags, but have only done this for a couple of very small weddings, under 80 people. Love the look though.

Patty, If you are still interested in tulle, Nordlie and Van's carries it. Do you have a Van's over there? If not, the one in GR will ship it to you.

Last I knew the price at Van's was close to getting it at Joanne's with their half price sale but that was several years ago. For those of you in the west there is place in California that sells it cheaper but I don't know if it ends up being a big difference for those here in the east (with shipping).

Nordlie's price was a bit higher than Van's per yard but their bolt size was smaller so if it is a one-time use and you don't need 50 yards, that might be better for you.

I wouldn't cut it in half either as the full width looks considerable better.

Personally, I don't try to reuse tulle unless it is in pristine condition so I wouldn't do it as a rental, only a purchase. I used to try to do it as a rental and that just didn't work so well.

Hope that all helps,
Wanda

Our Wal-Mart usually sells tulle for about 80cents a yard or you can try either Jo-Ann's or Hobby Lobby, both will let you use one of their 40-50% off coupons. Also, the 3M hooks are the easiest way to hang it.

Pam, which supplier did you get it from?
Please let me know.

Thanks.

Sher, I am very interested in your organza idea. Can you provide the supply information?

The shop is in Miami on 2nd ave or Miami ave..called Linda's Fabrics. Ask for Rosie and tell her you know me..anyone else speaks Spanish...she'll ship it to you...In 14 years I have bought 2 bolts from her in white and 1 in ivory.....sometimes she has smaller runs as well...my quote on 60 yard runs may be off...usually I just call her and she knows what I want...the beauty of it, is that I rent my aisle sides for 50 each...over and over, the column setup for ceremonys is 150...over and over and they stay clean, unwrinkled and store nicely...plus the bishoping and puddling is so much more elegant...call me at the shop if you can;'t find her number 800-725-9714
She has other things also...the latin fabric stores are a dream to visit if you are a fabriholic...drive down, we'll hit Miami , get a few media noches sandwiches , a cup of expresso, smoke a hand rolled cigar and be Big Shots!!!It is an experience you won't forget.....I love it!

The same day I called Joanne's for the price the lady stopped by here onher way home. She had to cut some tulle that day after she talked with me and discovereditis not 72" wide - it is only 54" wide. I thought that was very thoughtful of her. She was concerned I might end up making a mistake due to her mistake. More people should be like her, huh? So anyway, cutting it in half is not even an option now if we get it. I will look into the place you mentioned CHR, thanks.

Distinctive: I don't go to Nordlie unless I am desperate. They are only a couple miles from us. My husband worked there for 2 years quite a few years ago. They are almost always more expensive. No, we do not have a Van's around here.

As far as the decision to basically rope off the entrance to all the seats from the center aisle is what the groom wants and he is deliberately doing it to prevent all guests from using the center aisle. Probably some kind of idea that only the wedding party should use the center aisle. This guy is in the military and going back to Iraq this week and coming back home to marry the day before Sweetest Day.

vnance, I will have to search the Internet to find out what a 3M hook is. I was not sure how we were going to attach the tulle roping.

Thanks for all your input, I appreciate it a lot!

Sorry I didn't get the message .....

until today .... I see Waterdale (where I got it year's ago) has it in white only 54" width for 49.95/50 yard bolts. (item # RT 54 WH)

What would you suggest if you want something wrinkle free that isn't so sheer? Or does weight become too big of an issue.
